:::Reptile Mania:::: Puff-faced Water Snake

http://reptilia83.blogspot.com/2005/06/puff-faced-water-snake.html

Friday, June 10, 2005. The Puff-faced Water Snake inhabits fresh water bodies including swamps, ponds and forest streams. Nocturnal in habits, it feeds mainly on small fish or frogs. Juveniles are dark brown to black, with orange, red or pale bands with black-edging. Adults are plain brown or grey in colour, and have less distinctive banding. The belly is whitish, and the body scales are keeled. The species can be easily identified by the patterning on top of the broad head. Posted by Exotica at 12:21 AM.

Friday, June 10, 2005. The Blue Bronzeback inhabits primary and mature secondary lowland rainforest, up to an altitude of around 1000 metres. It is mainly arboreal and is an expert climber. Its diet comprises lizards, frogs and possibly other snakes. The body is slender and attractively patterned : the top of the head and vertebral scales are bronze, the flanks are yellow-green, and the dorsal scales white. Posted by Exotica at 12:29 AM. :::Reptile Mania:::: Variable Reed Snake

http://reptilia83.blogspot.com/2005/06/variable-reed-snake.html

Friday, June 10, 2005. The Variable Reed Snake is a burrowing, nocturnal forest species which only comes to the surface on rare occasions; it is therefore rarely seen. The dorsal surface is dark brown, and the ventral surface a striking yellow, generally with black crossbands. It preys on small frogs, and invertebrates. The snake photographed here was a recent roadkill, found close to Singapore's Central Catchment Forest. The reddish colour of the neck-band is not always so apparent.

:::Reptile Mania:::: Dog-faced Water Snake

http://reptilia83.blogspot.com/2005/06/dog-faced-water-snake.html

Friday, June 10, 2005. A very common, and sometimes abundant inhabitant of Southeast Asia's mangroves and mudflats, this species emerges in great numbers at night during low tide to feed on fish and invertebrates. Less commonly it can be found in inland freshwater. It is able to 'sidewind' across mudflats. The dorsal colour is greyish brown, and the ventral surface brown with white patches or cream-coloured and mottled. Posted by Exotica at 12:16 AM. View my complete profile.

Monday, June 13, 2005. The antlion gets its name because it is a voracious predator of ants and other insects. Actually, it's only the antlion larvae that is a predator. They capture ants and other crawling insects which accidentally fall into their circular pits. In the process of making their pits, antlion larvae create spiral-shaped trails in the sand. These trails are why they get the nickname "doodlebug", because it looks like someone has been doodling in the sand! However, compared to other Neuropt...
