2011 October – Big 4 partner

Reforming the Big 4 from the inside. The casualness of references to the ‘audit market’ is puzzling. Everyone uses the term as if it were self-evident what it means. Only a little reflection is required to realise that it isn’t obvious that there is a market for audit services in any usual sense of the term. At the most superficial level, auditing does of course involve an exchange of money for services rendered. I’m not arguing this isn’t the case. Does any of this matter? Fundamental misunderstanding o...

The economic reality: The marginal employer and the Croatian IRS
http://myeconomicreality.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-marginal-employer-and-croatian-irs.html
To go past the mainstream, and understand what impact policies will have on the real world. Nedjelja, 11. kolovoza 2013. The marginal employer and the Croatian IRS. It has been promulgated that over the past couple of years, entreprenuers have been cheating the government by not paying their fair share of taxes. This would include tax avoidance and tax evasions. Lets make two assumptions regarding the tax avoiders/ evaders:. 2 People who fail to pay taxes, by keeping more money for themselves. And alas, ...

The life and times of a future CPA. Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Yes, I know. In my last post (in December 2009) I said that I would be better about updating my blog. And that didn't happen. I'm sorry! Let's just say that the first year as a staff auditor is rough. Here is an update of what I have been up to:. I spent 9 weeks in Spokane, WA for work! What got me through it? A little vino with good friends didn't hurt, either :). One more audit, but the sun was out in Seattle! Redmond, that is. With te...

Dani Upside Down: November 2008
http://daniupsidedown.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
The life and times of a future CPA. Monday, November 24, 2008. Taco Bell at 12:30 AM. I have come to this conclusion: there is nothing more delicious than Taco Bell at obscene hours of the night. It just hits the spot! When forced to pick a fast food restaurant I usually pick something like Wendy's, Arby's. Or Cougar Country- something that at least appears more fresh. But, when it is 12:30 at night and you. Food, Taco Bell is the ticket.Who might you ask kept me out that late? Two and a half hours!

Opening reflections on audit – Big 4 partner
https://big4partner.wordpress.com/2011/10/29/opening-reflections-on-audit
Reforming the Big 4 from the inside. OK so this blog isn’t going to rival Belle du Jour. Let’s start with a few general reflections on financial audit and the Big 4. Cue extended throat clearing as someone wrote in something I once read. Auditors did not prevent the financial crisis. Should auditors have done better and, if so, how? More interesting questions now are why and how did this situation arise and what (if anything) can be done to address it? What exactly do we need from financial audit? Will j...
