from nola to nica: Katarina and Masaya with the Krewe of El Rosario
http://fromnolatonica.blogspot.com/2011/05/katarina-and-masaya-with-krewe-of-el.html
From nola to nica. Katarina and Masaya with the Krewe of El Rosario. After Katarina we took a bus to Masaya to check out the town and go shopping. The artists market was really nice and great place to buy things, but not on our budget. Then we stopped to have some lunch in the park and I couldn’t believe the napkin holder…a mug from the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad. Mama, Daddy, Drew: remember that! You have to wonder how it ended up all the way down here. Did you hear that Aunt Pat? Return to the islands.

from nola to nica: Easter Sunday at the Central Moravian Church
http://fromnolatonica.blogspot.com/2011/05/easter-sunday-at-central-moravian.html
From nola to nica. Easter Sunday at the Central Moravian Church. Three different choir groups performed to a full congregation. The pastor was very welcoming and called us out as visitors at the beginning of the service and then was sure to shake our hands at the end. I even saw a few people I’ve already met around town. It was definitely a warm feeling of community. Enviar por correo electrónico. Publicar un comentario en la entrada. Suscribirse a: Enviar comentarios (Atom). Bluefields, RAAS, Nicaragua.

From nola to nica. The name of my department is Attencion Integral de la Mujer, Niñez y Adolescente, AIMNA. In general, we monitor pregnancies, nutrition and vaccination of children under five years of age, and use of family planning services among adolescents. Right now I’d like to take the opportunity to mention that almost 40% of all pregnancies in Bluefields are girls 19 and younger. Dang! Talk about a problem, right? The reduction of maternal mortality is part of Millennium Development Goal Number 5...

From nola to nica. We are spending this week in San Ramon, Matalgalpa for Practicum Week, which means spending time in a casa materna, meeting and talking with some brigadistas, as well as current volunteers in our sector. We are staying at a darling little hotel that has beautiful misty mountain views and free wireless. This town is the site of a health volunteer named Cassie. On our first day, she took us to meet one of her most active brigadistas who lives way out in a rural community called Trentino&...

From nola to nica. As many of you may very well be aware, Nicaragua’s presidential elections will be held this coming November. Just like back home in the US, campaigning starts early.
