The Museum Of Power

The Museum Of Power. Tuesday, 8 December 2009. Over the past seven weeks, my group and I have recreated a steam powered coal pump featured in the 'Museum Of Power', Maldon. The idea was the create the engine from the ground up and show the mechanisms working in an educational and also interesting light. Furthermore we had to show the steam pump being used in the sort of environment it would have been used in decades ago. Working within the group environment has been a great experience and has a massive f...

The Museum Of Power: November 2009

http://richardking-museumpower.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

The Museum Of Power. Wednesday, 25 November 2009. Creating and Applying Texture Maps. The final stage before animation was to apply texture, specular and bump maps to the objects. As a group we decided that a lot of the texturing will be done by all group members as this alleviated the work load and allowed us to focus on the animation and post production. This is the final texture image used for the objects within 3ds Max. I wanted to remove the black spots from the image as these were appearing more li...

The Museum Of Power: Mechanism

http://richardking-museumpower.blogspot.com/2009/11/mechanism.html

The Museum Of Power. Thursday, 12 November 2009. My next job for my group was to help model the moving mechanisms in the centre of the steam pump. At first this looked quite daunting and complicated, and the animation was going to be even more difficult by the look of it. I decided instead to use the line tool with properties of the line tool set to 'Smooth' so I could create a fluid line with no straight lines. This created a much more realistic and better looking shape. I cloned the cylinder again and ...

The Museum Of Power: The Oil Lamp

http://richardking-museumpower.blogspot.com/2009/12/oil-lamp.html

The Museum Of Power. Thursday, 3 December 2009. For added effect and detail we thought as a group that a few oil lamps dotted around the scene will create a much more realistic atmosphere, and would also explain the presence of light during a night time scene. Adding a mesh smooth modifier created a good, rounded off and smooth surface. I applied a mesh smooth on this section as well to round the shape off and make it more consistent with the shape positioned below. Using the line tool with both properti...

Virtual Environments Group Project: Meeting Minutes - 12th November

http://vegroup.blogspot.com/2009/11/meeting-minutes-12th-november.html

Virtual Environments Group Project. Thursday, 12 November 2009. Meeting Minutes - 12th November. Although the group planned to bring together all modeling aspects ready to begin animation, unfortunately this did not come to fruition. This was primarily because the modeling has taken longer than we expected. As such, we decided to bring together all of our models so far, to see how things look at present. The image below shows our current progress:. Finished modeling the right side of the steam pump.

http://vegroup.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Virtual Environments Group Project. Wednesday, 25 November 2009. Meeting Minutes - 26th November. The two movies below show how our animation is currently looking. There are several glitches which Aaron and Richard are aware of and are currently working on, but this gives a general idea of how the machine will look at the end. The most noticeable aspects which need to be adhered to are the wheel, which is currently spinning too fast, and the 3rd arm back which collides with other moving parts:. Researchi...

Virtual Environments Group Project. Thursday, 3 December 2009. Group Minutes 3rd December. With a week to go before the final presentation and hand in date, the group are nearly ready to begin rendering and start the post production. Today, group member Stuart recorded a narration to accompany the final animation and also provided his final environment scene finished. As a group we decided to go for a night time snow scene for our animation and this was added to the 3ds Max scene today. Frames 200 - 900.

What's in the bag? Jeugdtour winnaar Fortis Tour.
