And other daily adventures in Tanzania. Wednesday, April 11, 2012. In so many ways, living in tanzania has been everything i imagined. there's something special about life here that makes me feel so free. and sometimes i feel like i fit here more than i maybe ever will in the united states. Riding the Daladala: March 2011

http://www.ridingthedaladala.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

And other daily adventures in Tanzania. Saturday, March 26, 2011. There's one thing I haven't really mentioned about daily life here: power outages. As I understand it, there's only so much power to go around, and it's not enough for the whole city. So they turn our power off in shifts, with one area having power during the day and the others having it at night. So pretty much everyone has power either in the day or at night. And the kerosene lantern. So, TANESCO (Tanzania Electrial Supply Co), I just wa...

And other daily adventures in Tanzania. Thursday, January 26, 2012. I'm back in Tanzania! And my friend Amy came back with me for a 2-week visit. She's heard probably more than she ever wanted to about Amani and Tanzania since I first came here in 2005, so it was really fun for her to be here and see things for herself. I don't have all of the pics, but here are a few:. At the hot springs. Eating kiti moto, one of our favorite local dishes. Amy with one of my coworkers. Asante sana for coming amy!

And other daily adventures in Tanzania. Monday, September 19, 2011. There have been many festivities lately with the Amani kids, and I've been lucky to get to share in some of the fun. Yohana receiving a graduation gift:. Standard 7 graduates and their family members:. On Saturday, Charles, one of the older Amani kids, celebrated his confirmation. And what did he want for his present? Ismaili the one playing the drums. And here he is singing:. September 25, 2011 at 4:22 AM. View my complete profile.

Riding the Daladala: July 2011

And other daily adventures in Tanzania. Saturday, July 16, 2011. I've been back for only two weeks, but it seems like it's been a long time. and between getting used to my new job and power outages that are happening about 50% of the time these days, there hasn't been much time for updates. It's also rewarding to act as a voice for the porters who are often too scared to speak for themselves for fear of losing what work they do have. many times the porters are portrayed as these thieving troublemaker...

Dear Laura: Dear Laura, Steph caught her first fish!

http://dearlaurahippensteel.blogspot.com/2010/07/dear-laura-steph-caught-her-first-fish.html

Friday, July 23, 2010. Dear Laura, Steph caught her first fish! We had another fun adventure in Clinton with Buford last week. First we went blueberry picking in Norris. Those berries were perfect for pickin' and that's just what we did. Even a thunderstorm didn't stop us! We picked four gallons, and Nat ate about two while we were out in the patch. She just can't keep sun ripened berries in her bucket! And now, on to the main event, Steph Bales, natural fisherwoman! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

My Mountain Life: December 2009

http://aesmith75.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! It has been a crazy month and I can't believe it is already Christmas on Friday! Speaking of skiing, I taught my first ski lessons this week! It was a little bit of a shock actually. As a new-hire, we have to complete 12 hours of team teaching before we can be put on the schedule. I had completed about 6 hours when I walked into work and my boss told me that I was going to have to teach in 30 minutes. Ok! Monday, December 7, 2009. Things h...

http://aesmith75.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 20, 2009. Tomorrow is the first day of the ski season in Park City! It was a long day at work: cleaning the ski center, making copies of training packets; and GETTING MY INSTRUCTOR SKI PASS! Thursday, November 12, 2009. I've been told I have to keep up with these blog updates. I apologize for the few weeks that I left everyone in the dark. Well what has been happening? I took Cooper (the dog) outside a little bit ago to play in the snow. It was so beautiful! I love how it is so much brig...

I am so excited! Evan and I found out tonight, and Jessie finds out tomorrow. : ) I knew that she would have no problem getting it. What a fun winter this is going to be! I had to tell SOMEONE, since I can't tell her. Luckily she doesn't know I have a blog. We'll see if it really happens. For about 4 days now!

My Mountain Life: Cashew Chicken Traditions.

http://aesmith75.blogspot.com/2009/12/cashew-chicken-traditions.html

Friday, December 4, 2009. Apparently, it is snowing in Baton Rouge right now. That's nice and all, but why isn't it snowing in a place that needs it? Anyway, I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving! Things have been great in my neck of the woods. Last week I boarded a plane bound for, first Chicago, and then Springfield, Missouri. It was great to get out of town for a bit and see my family. I love Park City, but it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Park City, Utah, United States.

Sunday, July 18, 2010. Dear Laura, we went berry picking with Buf. We now consider ourselves berry picking extraordinaires! Nat's dad took us blackberry picking and, oh man, we had no idea what we'd be getting into! We started the day out with some doughnuts and coffee from Dunkin' Donuts and then got our pickin' hands ready! We picked all day and basked in the beauty of the Lord out on the farm. Steph really was a natural out there. She could spot 'em a mile away! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Lauren Ruth Wiener, author, Riding the Cyclone

Growing up feral in the '60s. God and sugar water. A single instant can change your whole life. Mine changed on April 1, 1960, when my mother, reading in bed late one night, slumped over, dead at 42 of a cerebral aneurysm. Thus I began, at age six, the bizarre amalgam of abuse, neglect, and unsupervised international travel that was my personal wild ride through the sixties. A riveting first-person account of growing up alone and strange,. Dad wants the maid. 2014 Lauren Ruth Wiener.
