A Writer's Rants and Raves: Su-Su-Summertime!
http://lauraellenbooks.blogspot.com/2011/06/su-su-summertime.html
A Writer's Rants and Raves. A blog by author Laura Ellen about writing for children. Friday, June 24, 2011. Tuesday my 12 year old son begged me to take him and his sister to the library. I had to smile. Even though our summers are different that part isn't, and I'm glad for it. They still equate summer with going to the library. and reading lots of books. I'm glad I've passed that part of my childhood on to them. So no matter what your summer plans are, I hope you take the time to head to the library.

This is your brain on catnip. | Shoebox:

These words are all remainders…. This is your brain on catnip. Anybody else remember an old YA series — I believe it was by Andre Norton — in which it turned out that. Were actually stranded descendants of kitty-shaped aliens, who had returned to rescue them because humans were about to go boom? I would chalk this up to one more example of inexplicable LOLcattery (this is, after all, the same feline who excitedly paws at the screen whenever. In the Night Garden. Weird random occurrence is weird. You are ...

When Joy and Duty clash… | Shoebox:
https://shoebox2.wordpress.com/2010/06/29/when-joy-and-duty-clash
These words are all remainders…. When Joy and Duty clash…. So I’m on a course of kidlit lately, and have just finished Kate Douglas Wiggin’s celebrated. Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. New Chronicles of Rebecca,. Which tells additional stories within the timeframe of the original. There I am, reading along, enjoying the new insights that emerge when you reread a childhood favourite… when it hits me: this all sounds familiar. Very familiar. To wit:. Upon arrival at their distinctive homestead, Rebecca quickly...

These words are all remainders…. Enough with the weirdness, back to the… Bob and Ray obsession. Never mind. Tags: bob and ray. Damnit, I keep running into material on Bob and Ray that I wish I’d found. I started writing this threatening-to-become-widely-disseminated article. First there were those Baillett. Profiles, and now Gerald Nachman’s. Seriously Funny: The Rebel Comedians of the 1950s and 1960s,. 8212; reserved and precise, artistic but also ‘studious…a ‘creature of habit’ ...Enter your comment he...

I am so incredibly ticked off right now. | Shoebox:
https://shoebox2.wordpress.com/2010/06/27/i-am-so-incredibly-ticked-off-right-now
These words are all remainders…. I am so incredibly ticked off right now. Not at the G20 protesters, so much. The peaceful ones were only exercising their just and justified rights… and the subhumans smashing into a Starbucks then casually grabbing a bottle of water from the counter (rampaging against the system is thirsty work, evidently) would only be energised further by my rage. Frankly I refuse to give them that satisfaction. This was going to happen, and they went ahead and did it to us anyway.

A Writer's Rants and Raves: August 2009

A Writer's Rants and Raves. A blog by author Laura Ellen about writing for children. Wednesday, August 19, 2009. Will Kindle kill the Publishing House? Yeah, I know I promised a debrief on the SCBWI LA. Conference, but this does sort of relate. While at the conference my friend Su brought her kindle and I got to check it out. Pretty cool. I especially liked how one can change the font size - for someone like me who can't read small print without a magnification device, it is awesome. And perhaps this wil...

A Writer's Rants and Raves: How I am Learning to 'Pimp Myself'

A Writer's Rants and Raves. A blog by author Laura Ellen about writing for children. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. How I am Learning to 'Pimp Myself'. Since I accepted my book offer from Karen Grove at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. In mid-March, I have discovered there is volumes to be learned about marketing a book. Most of my education on this topic has come by way of The Apocalypsies. All 2012 debut authors who have banded together to help promote and support one another. What a great group of authors! A Writer's Rants and Raves: April 2009
http://lauraellenbooks.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
A Writer's Rants and Raves. A blog by author Laura Ellen about writing for children. Thursday, April 2, 2009. Ode To My Critique Group. In honor of Poetry Month, I thought I'd write an ode to my critique group. And Diane, our Queen of the Meter, and all you other poem-extraordinaries, I apologize in advance, for I know this only-one-stanza, slightly-stretched-rhyme, a-little-off-in-meter ode probably doesn't pass your poetry litmus tests! ODE TO MY CRIT PEEPS. Writing is a lonely craft. Clockwork Angel b...
