Robert Kourik's Garden Roots. Rambling thoughts and observations about horticulture and nature. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Peasant Gardens vrs. Convenience. One of the big trends in gardening these days is planting a multilayered garden with edible plants as ground cover, shrubs, and fruit trees, with a few herbs and/ornamental thrown into the mix. I was intrigued by this concept in the mid-70s. I learned my lesson well—the hard way. 8220;BUY FROM THE SOURCE TO HELP KEEP WRITERS WRITING”. Your Edible Lands...

See Jane dig.: May 2009

http://seejanedig.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

This is the diary of a girl and her garden. Saturday, May 30, 2009. Both of the rose bushes on our lot have flower buds. These poor plants have been receiving threats from my better half and Miss A since the day we moved in. They didn't do anything last summer, preferring to concentrate their energy on hamstringing my husband while he mows and snatching pets away from neighbors. Could it be my promises of getting them a real, genuine big-rose-bush trellis to climb on if they behave? Monday, May 18, 2009.

This is the diary of a girl and her garden. Friday, February 27, 2009. Ugh What a week. Mother Nature continuously mocked us. "Oh, you want some spring weather? Well, here’s a 45 degree day. What, what’s that? You have a problem with no sun and torrential downpours? I’m going to take all that water and freeze it! Now it’s 20 degrees again. How do you like crunchy, muddy grass? You get the point. . 1 tsp vegetable oil. 1 tsp dish soap. Those are the good guys. 160;I would like to hunt down and explore mor...

In the spring of 2008, my better half and I purchased a modest little plot in the city. Encouraged by a friend, I gave this “gardening” thing she was so crazy about a try. See Jane dig.: March 2010

http://seejanedig.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

This is the diary of a girl and her garden. Sunday, March 28, 2010. Mother Nature, are you being sneaky? I checked in the front, South bed today and my daffodils are in bloom. What? This warm weather is really stirring up the activity on the lot. When I checked my post for my daffodils last year, they had bloomed around the end of April. Are they early this year? Or maybe last year they were late? It's going to be fun comparing my growing notes and garden photos from this year to the previous. Last year ...

This is the diary of a girl and her garden. Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Flowers Made from Moons. It started when we were at the Farmers’ Market at the end of last summer and I spotted a moonflower (Datura) plant at one of the booths. It had a single, huge, beautiful bloom on it. Miss A had grown Moonflower vines before, which are actually not Datura, but Ipomoea (belonging to the morning glory family). Wednesday, August 12, 2009. I purchased both white and red snapdragons this year for the white, black and...
