Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: Thumps from the Roof
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2009/01/thumps-from-roof.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Thumps from the Roof. Typing away here in the office (where else but Rocklands would updating my blog be work? And I keep hearing these massive thumps from above. Paddy, Shaun, and our new volunteer, Carolyn, are up there speading some grey goo over the roof in an attempt to eliminate re-inactments of Noah's flood outside the tuckshop door every time a drizzle comes up. Right I'm American. Give me a break! Your blog is feel good.

Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: October 2008
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Monday, October 27, 2008. 1,687 miles later. 1,687 miles of African travel and I come to startling realisations:. I have a VERY Swedish-American accent- able to make toast into three syllables. I like elephants nuzzling my hand as I feed them. Caves are not all that scary- or so I kept telling myself. There is a reason no one rides ostriches anymore! Roast veg, wine, and a seaside cabin are the stuff of beautiful dreams. Small people are ideal for backseat travel. Along w...

Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: TIA=This is Africa!
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2009/02/tiathis-is-africa.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Thursday, February 12, 2009. Here's a pic of us filling up the water containers. And, we are running the low-ropes course today with the girls; which will be interesting as it will be 100F (38C) today and no shower to come back to. Hmmmm. It makes me all very glad for our lights, which have stayed on, and our internet, which is on again after a rock was pulled off the lines. As the Africans say in their very laid-back way, "TIA=This is Africa! Boats are for losers.

Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: November 2008
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Thursday, November 20, 2008. Was my radio on? Realising you might be a camp staffer:. While in the toilet you think "Is my radio on? Laundry becomes a four letter word- other staff may lend you clean t-shirts and trousers, but it ends there! You have a water bottle. That you actually use and threaten harm to anyone who takes it. Bear, baboon, scorpion, and teenagers run when they see you coming. Zoolander may have a look, but you use THE look daily. Links to this post.

Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: December 2008
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Monday, December 22, 2008. I'm back from inner Cape Town after hostelling it up there on Long Street for a few nights. Many muffins, a couple pints, a few nights in a hostel, one garden visited, and a jaunt on public transport to round out the trip's stories. (And, of course, Hillsong's church twice on Sunday.). I'll attempt to post photos later. Links to this post. Saturday, December 13, 2008. Walking with the penguins. Links to this post. Thursday, December 11, 2008.

Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: September 2008
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Monday, September 29, 2008. The best discovery EVER! Philosophy, Sun Goddess, etc. are at the V and A Waterfront mall in Capetown! Yes, I know it's very wrong for a Christian to be materialistic, and I shall never be able to afford strappy. PS Actually, my favourite purchase of the day was a steaming HOT mug of soy cappacino from Gloria Jean's coffee shop. $1.50 US dollars to satisfy this milk-allergic poor American. Yes! Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain: And all that jazz...
http://darlassuitcase.blogspot.com/2009/02/and-all-that-jazz.html
Darla's Junk-Food for the Brain. Wednesday, February 18, 2009. And all that jazz. Six weeks left in SA! Ahhhhh. Nobody panic! I arrived from London in a fog of rushed visas, overnight flights, and an interesting stop-over in Dubia- where I nearly passed out in the airport from lack of food/sleep. My first group was teen boys in a drug rehab programme. The boys were lovely and so well-mannered! Volunteers left the staff house, while others arrived. South Africa kicked out it's president. And all that jazz.
