Roch-a-Cha Rant: January 2006

Tuesday, January 31, 2006. Taking Aim at the East Main Street Armory. Will emerge as the Eastman Dental Dispensary's savior by renovating the structure for artist live-work space. What does the Armory have to do with this? My idea: the New York Museum of Transportation. Posted by Man About Town @ 1:40 PM. Monday, January 30, 2006. Duffy Not a Risk-Taker? How quickly people forget the risks to public safety that then-Chief Duffy took in order to consolidate the Rochester Police Department into two precinc...

Roch-a-Cha Rant: July 2006

Wednesday, July 26, 2006. Paetec Encourages Long Commutes. I hope other telecom firms in this communications mecca that we call home follow PAETEC's lead and offer the same opportunity for their employees. One Communications and Frontier both have large presences downtown and would be well-served to help their employees purchase homes in the city thereby potentially shortening their commutes and enriching their lives. But could PAETEC also learn something from their rivals? Friday, July 21, 2006. In all ...

Roch-a-Cha Rant: Welcome Downtown, ESL
http://rochacha-rant.blogspot.com/2008/02/welcome-downtown-esl.html
Saturday, February 09, 2008. Welcome Downtown, ESL. A big name in the local financial scene, ESL Federal Credit Union, revealed plans on Thursday to move their corporate headquarters to a new building in downtown Rochester. The new six-story 180,000 square foot building will house more than 300 ESL employees, including 30 new hires over the next three years. ESL follows Paetec Communications as the latest locally-based company making the move to our rejuvenating center city. It seems to me that the corne...

Roch-a-Cha Rant: April 2006
http://rochacha-rant.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 28, 2006. Bob Barbato Can't Swim. The D&C ran a short story on the master plan. Isn't that the point of this redevelopment - to make it less desolate and more active year-round? RIT actually pays this guy to make opinionated uninformed statements like that and I'm doing this for free? He said that three years ago, and it seems he already disagrees with himself. The City is promoting a significant amount of housing within the Port development, and that is exactly what he is criticizing t...

Apparently someone was listening when I went off on Joe Robach and the rest of our State delegation for not fighting for Rochester's fair share of State funds. Please forgive my immodesty, but I am taking credit for Senator Robach's tirade. If you disagree, suggest other characters that he resembles. Gantt should be our city's mo...

Roch-a-Cha Rant: Say No to No Tolerance
http://rochacha-rant.blogspot.com/2007/10/say-no-to-no-tolerance.html
Friday, October 12, 2007. Say No to No Tolerance. It's Day Four of the City's asset freeze caused by our lily-livered mayor's decision to kowtow to his police buddies (who are getting quite the handsome raise). Does anyone actually believe that the current police state imposed on this city will do anything long-term to curtail crime? Give me a friggin break! How about he go and address the Ontario County Board of Supervisors and give them a piece of our collective mind? Would someone please give me a rea...

Roch-a-Cha Rant: Wegmans Boycott Comes to an End
http://rochacha-rant.blogspot.com/2007/10/wegmans-boycott-comes-to-end.html
Monday, October 29, 2007. Wegmans Boycott Comes to an End. You read that title right. My self-imposed boycott of hometown favorite Wegmans has met its end. Not that I've actually patronized Wegmans since I lifted the ban, but I will no longer refuse to shop there. Is this a sign of a more mature Man About Town? Certainly not. But two recent gestures of good will on the part of Wegmans has prompted me to announce that I will no longer judge you for being a Wegmans shopper. The ROC, New York, United States.

I can write the counter-mailings: "County Republicans want your children to die for Texaco," "County Republicans Support Substandard Health Care," "County Republicans Know What You Did Last Summer.". D, I, WF) - While I was unsure whether I would support Spitzer or Tom Suozzi in the Democratic Primary for Governor, the choice is crystal-clear now. Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Return Frederick Douglass to Prominence in Rochester. While Susan B. Anthony has long had a worthy memorial at the Susan B. Anthony House on Madison Street, where is our memorial to Frederick Douglass? Both of these proposals have merit and I applaud their backers for their efforts to build facilities worthy of Rochester's heritage. But shouldn't they be combined into one single effort capable of creating something that would firmly establish Rochester as a center for cult...
