Crash in the Kitchen: Seared Scallops and Foie Gras
http://crashinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2013/02/seared-scallops-and-foie-gras.html
Friday, February 15, 2013. Seared Scallops and Foie Gras. This year's contribution to our annual Valentine's Day meal is by far the fanciest, most decadent, and most gorgeous addition to the recipe family. Previous years brought us the good ol' surf n turf. And the unique duck pizza. I don't have any fancy equipment to make the maple foam, so I used my immersion blender and scooped the foam off the top, immediately before serving so it would hold. It's not as thick as a foam you'd see in a Colicchio ...

Crash in the Kitchen: Thanksgiving Part I: Citrus-Herb Roasted Turkey
http://crashinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2012/12/thanksgiving-part-i-citrus-herb-roasted.html
Friday, December 7, 2012. Thanksgiving Part I: Citrus-Herb Roasted Turkey. Well this is embarrassing. all my previous lapses in posting are nothing compared to this one! This fall my parents visited from Connecticut for Thanksgiving, which was held at my house with my sister and brother-in-law also in attendance. It was my first Thanksgiving! First, let's focus on the main event: the turkey! I picked up a fresh 16 lb hen from Maple Lawn farms, which happens to be just a few miles from my house. Because o...

Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Thanksgiving Part II: Wild Mushroom Bacon Stuffing. This was my favorite dish of Thanksgiving, and I dont usually even like stuffing! We didnt stuff the turkey at all, just made a separate dish since most of us prefer a crispy-topped stuffing. This was the first leftover to be devoured (cold, with spoons, directly out of the baking dish) the next day. Thats how good it is. Friday, December 7, 2012. Thanksgiving Part I: Citrus-Herb Roasted Turkey. If you dont count the time i...

Crash in the Kitchen: Thanksgiving Part III: Harvest Focaccia
http://crashinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2013/01/thanksgiving-part-iii-harvest-focaccia.html
Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Thanksgiving Part III: Harvest Focaccia. This focaccia is a bit more time consuming than other focaccia recipes I've made but oh lordy is it worth it! The grapes and turbinado sugar ("sugar in the raw" as you may know it) sweeten the salty bread just enough but not too much as to make it a dessert bread. I intended to serve it alongside the meal but we ended up eating a bunch as soon as it came out of the oven; it smelled too good! 2 1/4-oz packets active dry yeast (1.5 tbsp).

Crash in the Kitchen: November 2011
http://crashinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 17, 2011. I had this sangria at a friends holiday party a few years ago and had to steal the recipe. The cinnamon and cloves just scream holidays and create a great new twist on a classic drink that I usually equate with summer. I served it at a party of my own and it was a hit there, too. Sunday, November 13, 2011. Green Curry Quinoa with Cauliflower. Friday, November 11, 2011. Biscuits with Artichokes, Roasted Red Peppers and Feta. I know, sounds amazing, right? Biscuits with Articho...

Crash in the Kitchen: May 2012

Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Grilled Scallops with Mango Salsa. Spring has definitely sprung, and with that comes my love for all things grilled, including scallops on skewers. This time, I rubbed them with a homemade spice mix and served with fresh mango salsa. The most time-consuming part was the salsa and even that was simple: just chop up a few fresh veggies/fruits and mix together. Add some red rice. And youve got a perfect weeknight meal! Thursday, May 3, 2012. Howdy, strangers. Im alive! Just up the pike.

Trying Not to Bneg: My Dad Was Way Before United We Serve
http://bneg.blogspot.com/2009/07/my-dad-was-way-before-united-we-serve.html
Trying Not to Bneg. I try not to be negative. However, it's my blood type and with it pulsing through my veins I really wonder if I have any choice. Saturday, July 18, 2009. My Dad Was Way Before United We Serve. A friend from high school said he never drives past a volunteer community car wash without thinking about my dad. My dad owned a gas station and he was always letting scouts and schools have car washes. My friend marveled at all the gallons of water he donated. 8220;It's a nationwide effort to c...

Trying Not to Bneg. I try not to be negative. However, it's my blood type and with it pulsing through my veins I really wonder if I have any choice. Saturday, July 25, 2009. Secret Cindy: Who Are You Online? Friends came up to me at a picnic and immediately asked about the motorcycle rally I attended. I blurted out a short description which had them laughing, “I didn’t need the Lane Bryant coupon and I’m not a lesbian.”. I think some people don’t post status updates for exactly this reason. For 23 years ...

Trying Not to Bneg: A Real Life Parable Made Me Think

Trying Not to Bneg. I try not to be negative. However, it's my blood type and with it pulsing through my veins I really wonder if I have any choice. Tuesday, June 9, 2009. A Real Life Parable Made Me Think. We all know about the parable of the woman giving her small amount in the temple showing far more love than the rich man who gave a larger amount but a smaller fraction of his wealth. I had witnessed the real thing. While I thought selfish thoughts on his behalf, he emptied his wallet. Subscribe to: P...

Trying Not to Bneg. I try not to be negative. However, it's my blood type and with it pulsing through my veins I really wonder if I have any choice. Thursday, June 18, 2009. This week I took my sons to see the movie. The loss of a long-time partner never fails to make me crumble. Since I don’t want to spoil the movie, I won’t give away any plot, but go see it even if you don’t have kids. Reading Michael’s most recent words and seeing. So I’m sharing part of Michael’s message of renewed spirit:. So that t...
