Astronomy sketches and notes. Archive for July 2015. Laquo; rogerivester home page. Phillip Ivester Race Cars, Fabrication and Engineering. July 25, 2015. My brother, Phillip has had much success in drag racing, winning “an amazing” 164 events in the past 30 years. The summer heat, haze and humidity in the foothills of North Carolina as always, makes it virtually impossible to observe. I can’t hardly wait for the cooler nights of September and the frosty clear nights of November. Roger. July 17, 2015.

The Worlds Of Fred Rayworth. Author Fred Rayworth's Web Site. The Observer’s Challenge. On this page I discuss anything to do with telescope making and observational astronomy. This is my home-made 16″ Dobsonian reflector telescope I used from 1987 until 2008. It has seen many different reincarnations. This is the latest version which I call English Rose. Long story. THE OBSERVER’S CHALLENGE. As a result, we’ve attracted participants from all over the country including some prominent figures in the...

Saturday, 28 April 2012. Cosmic Challenge by Philip S. Harrington - A review. Cosmic Challenge - The Ultimate Observing List for Amateurs by Philip S. Harrington. Cambridge University Press (November 30, 2010). Rating: 8/10 - Recommended. So how are the sketches in the book? I understand this is to represent the difficulty of the objects and how they even can look at the eyepiece but contrast up man! What of the actual challenges? Tuesday, 14 February 2012. Catalog of Galactic Asterisms and Concentrations of Stars. Who amongst us hasn't noted an asterism or a lovely little concentration of stars while running around the sky with our telescopes. I'm no different. All of the objects have been named after the brightest member in the group in this catalog order: HD, PPM, TYC and GSC.Objects already "kn...

Thursday, 8 August 2013. Extragalactic objects - Beyond M31 and M33. As I'm preparing a little presentation of "EXTRAGALACTIC OBJECTS IN ANDROMEDA AND TRIANGULUM GALAXIES" to our annual Deep Sky Meeting, I thought to myself, why not dump some of that stuff in it here? As the goodies in Andromeda and Triangulum galaxies have already been discussed in the Blog, here are some of the fancy objects included in the intro of the presentation. Artist's impression of SagDEG. Image courtesy of NASA. Is of course L...
