Friday, May 22, 2009. Kris Allen - American Idol 2009 Winner. Kris Allen beated Adam Lambert in the grand finale of the American Idol Season 8 with a record breaking of over 100 million votes. Adam Lambert, who was known for his theatrical and powerful voice and was seemingly the judges favorite particularly on the last performance night was knocked off by Kris Allen. Monday, May 25, 2009. Pearl of Lao Tzu is the world's largest pearl. This was discovered by a Filipino diver in a giant Tridacna (mollusk) in Palawan Island way back 1934. Known also as the "Pearl of Allah", the gem weighs 14 pounds and measures 9 1/2 inches long and 5 1/2 inches in diameter. As of May 1984, it was valued at US$42 million.
