2006 The Land of NO. I get in invite in the mail. VW Bus "Arizona Roundup - Campout". Date: February 17 20. Coronado National Forest "Council Rocks" area near Tombstone, AZ. Western slope of the Dragoon Mountains. Sounds like my kind of place! Lolli has to teach. I'm retired! I pack my Vanagon, add four model airplanes and head out February 10th! First stop, the "Woodland/Davis Aeromodelers" northwest of Sacramento. The guy kneeling in the left photo is the guy who invented and manufactures APC props!

The next day on over Walker Pass and down into Owens Valley and up to Coso Hot springs; can't enter the area, "Naval Weapons Testing Area"! 1988-89 Baja with Lolli. Here we go. My travel partner Lolli and I head south for our Christmas/New Year Winter Break. Heading down MEX-1 during the afternoon commute. Then out to a wee beach south of Mulege. The Christmas presents are placed around the Palm tree with care! Wash day in Baja. It doesn't take long to do the dry cycle. Past Guerrero Negro we make a quick trip out to Scammons Lagoon to see the whales. There are no whales yet. On the way to the Lagoon we come across the salt evaporation ponds.

My brother, Kenny, took my "Sunbird" picture and made a handmade box for me of it with the picture in marquetry. Is this cool or what? The box is made of figured Maple with Bubinga insets in the corners. The sky is figured Koa and the sun is mottled African Satinwood with some yellow dye. The mountains are figured Walnut. Wow! What a special Christmas gift!
