Long Live Erma | Cincy Sarah

Because you can't spell Cincinnati. Thursday, April 17, 2014. Image from BrainPickings.org. One of my favorite sites. A renowned feminist theorist, a septuagenarian New York Times bestseller, and the first editor of Ms. Magazine walk into a bar. No. Scratch that. And then best-selling author, tenured English/Feminist Theory professor, and recent Friar's Club inductee Gina Barreca. Bares her upper thigh so we can all get a good look at her tights. As the pace picks up, it's a wild ride. Gina frames lo...

PHOLKART*STUDIO: May 2015
https://pholkartstudio.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
May 15, 2015. One of the talented artists I enjoy 'following' is Stephanie Ackerman. Whose colorful doodles and lettering style are whimsical and straight from her heart. As a Christian artist, Stephanie has been an encouragement to me to combine my faith and my love for color and illustration and journaling in a fresh new way. You can take a peek at Stephanie's Doodle Gallery here. Just recently I decided to take one of Stephanie's online classes. 'A Whole New Doodle'. The last Sunday afternoon of our f...

At Surtex many wonderful artists came by our booth to say hi and doodled on our board. We want to thank them all for contributing to such a fun activity and for coming by! This page is dedicated to The Moon from My Attic Artists Doodle Museum. Every year after Surtex, we will add a new Doodle Board for that show with the artists' info. Select the one...

PHOLKART*STUDIO: January 2015
https://pholkartstudio.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
January 26, 2015. Time for a Blog Makeover. I really don't know how this happened. but somehow, long ago, this chubby mermaid became the star of my blog header. She's a character from one of the first art cards I made years ago. Yes, she looks gigantic here, but she really only measures a teeny-tiny 2.5" x 3.5". Still, she's very sensitive about her weight (*wink*). She's a little bit 'creakier' these days. and you can see the laugh lines around her eyes. Labels: aging with grace. Growing as an artist.

PHOLKART*STUDIO: Apples vs. Oranges
https://pholkartstudio.blogspot.com/2015/02/apples-vs-oranges.html
February 26, 2015. Apples vs. Oranges. See Photo Credit Below. From time to time I can really get myself into a creative 'funk'! And unfortunately, February has ended up being a very 'funky' month for me. As much as I love having access to so much arty inspiration and creative community online. if I'm not very very careful, I start comparing my abilities with other artists and end up feeling blechh about me! And yes, I'm sure that blechh must be a real word and not just something I'm making up! I, when I...

January 8, 2014. Three Goals For 2014. Background photo © Darya Petrenko. And suddenly. It's January, 2014! Time to hang the brand new calendar in the kitchen and give some thought to my priorities for the year ahead! It always seems that, as I take the Christmas ornaments down and try to shift life into 'Normal' again, I have the overwhelming urge to purge our home of things we don't need. and to organize myself better for the New Year. This year is no exception. And what needs to be changed? My husband...

Life is short, wear your slippers! The Legacy of M.E. August 11, 2014. In the wake of the wave. 8220;He had so much to live for…so much going for him…”. The difference for me is: the men whom I’ve lost had their whole lives ahead of them. They were young…and as far as anyone knew, had everything going for them. They were my nephews, my younger brother’s only sons; and the devastation to our family, left us forever changed with each loss. So, we just loved. We cried. We ached. We clung to each...When it h...
