Fairy Coin « Rootbeer and Typewriters
https://rootbeerandtypewriters.wordpress.com/2015/03/13/fairy-coin
A blog by Daniel Peretti. We return to Sean O’Sullivan’s. For another story of the fair folk. This one, told by Diarmaid Mac Seain in Donegal, 1946, concerns itself with the tension between the old (fairies) and the relatively new (Christianity). Like the other tales of fairies in Ireland, it’s a legend; meaning it has the benefit of the doubt in regard to veracity. It’s told of a man from the city of Teelin. This entry was posted in a new story every day. And tagged st. patrick's day. Fill in your detai...

A blog by Daniel Peretti. The folklorist Ray Cashman has done quite a bit of fieldwork in Ireland, one result of which is the book. Storytelling on the Northern Irish Border. Anyway, the book has lots of humorous stories, such as this one:. Mickey says, “Well, it’s like this. If your cat and my cat kittled on the same day, that’d be coincidence. This entry was posted in a new story every day. And tagged st. patrick's day. The witch revealed →. One comment on “ A Joke. March 12, 2015 at 2:10 pm.

A blog by Daniel Peretti. Monthly Archives: March 2015. At last, a Leprechaun. Sean O’Conaola of Galway heard this story from some elderly folks in the area. He told it to Brian Mac Lochlainn in 1937; it’s in Sean O’Sullivan’s. The Three Laughs of the Leipreachan. It might be relevant to know that legends tell of Danish treasure being hidden in the earth, the location of which is only known by the little people]. Later still the farmer was going to a fair, and dug up his money from where he’d hidde...

A blog by Daniel Peretti. Newer posts →. A Grave and a Bottle. They’ve been friends for years. Went through school together. Worked together. And every night they shared a bottle of whiskey. Then one gets sick, and asks the other to pour out a bottle of their favorite whiskey on his grave when the time comes. The other agrees. The one dies, and is buried, and shortly after the funeral, the other brings to bottle of whiskey to the grave. A new story every day. Tagged st. patrick's day. The Banshee always ...
the witch revealed « Rootbeer and Typewriters
https://rootbeerandtypewriters.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/the-witch-revealed
A blog by Daniel Peretti. It’s common to oppose a modern sensibility to a pre-modern one by saying that the pre-modern worldview ascribed misfortune to personalities, and the modern ascribes many of them to impersonal forces. The classic example is disease, which was often said to be caused by witch craft or the evil eye, but is now said to be caused by tiny, invisible creatures that invade our bodies and use us as spawning grounds. All Silver and No Brass. About a Christmas mumming;. They didn’t s...

A Job for Superman: February 2015

A Job for Superman. A blog of science fiction, comics, and whatnot. Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Well, this blog has served its purpose. My Superman research is pretty much done (or it will never be done- either way, I've done what I needed with this blog). I've decided to continue blogging, but at a new site: Rootbeer and Typewriters. That said, there may be one or two more posts here in the future. Update posts. You never know. Links to this post. The Boston Sportsworld Told By Fans |
The Boston Sportsworld Told By Fans. Rootbeer and Bacon 1. Yup, thats the tally as it stands now. We laid down a challenge and the Sox blinked. You may recall a post a few weeks ago wherein I threatened a bigman boycott of Remdawgs if the Red Sox did not start to produce shirts in sizes larger than XL. My reasoning was the signing of Bartolo Colon, a big man himself. Victory…drink it in boys because it never tasted so good. Time to Hit the Panic Button? Well, by now I am sure that many of you have learne...
Root Beer & BBQ
Root Beer and BBQ. Wednesday, March 2, 2011. BBQ vs Grilling - Is there a difference? Grilling Everything Under the Sun. It is possible to cook higher and quicker with smoke but usually the meat just doesn't turn out as good if it is rushed. Slow smoking allows the meat to breakdown (tenderize) and retain more juices than grilling and then the wonderfulness of smoke is added. For now I guess that's it. Just some basic thoughts on Grilling and BBQing, both of which are wonderful ways to cook meat. Therefo...
