Orford Ness is a longshore shingle spit off the Suffolk Coast and a former secret military site used during both world wars and the Cold War for testing weapons components. Large, cavernous concrete pagodas built for testing triggers for nuclear warheads dot the landscape, their elevated roofs designed to collapse during large explosions to contain the blast within the confines of their subterranean interiors. What paranoia drives them?
