Ravenglass is the only coastal village within the Lake District National Park, and lies on the estuary of three rivers - the Esk, the Mite and the Irt. Ravenglass became an important naval base for the Romans in the 2nd century, Glannaventa, some of which remains. The main street is paved with sea cobbles, which leads up from the shingle beach. Our Web Cam (up-dated every 5 mins) looks out from the front of Rosegarth and shows the convergence of the Rivers Mite and Irt before they join the Esk. Facing West, we are fortunate to enjoy spectacular sunsets resulting in the whole of the estuary and village being bathed in a soft orange glow.
