AREQUIPA AND THE COLCA CANYON, PERU | DENYERS ADVENTURES

https://rosiedenyer.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/arequipa-and-the-colca-canyon/comment-page-1

AREQUIPA AND THE COLCA CANYON, PERU. June 6, 2015. September 25, 2015. The first day of our two-day tour of the Colca Canyon was tainted by the fact that I hadn’t slept at all the night before. I seem to have developed a case of the common British cold, and for someone who never really gets ill, it’s just my luck really. That night we stayed in Chivay (“Quechua for ‘a place for making the babies'” our enthusiastic tour guide explained and suggested we find ourselves some nice local men)...After seeing th...

QUILOTOA LOOP, ECUADOR. July 31, 2015. September 26, 2015. Leaving Baños feeling bruised and battered, we decided to make our way up to Quito, with the intention of taking it easy for a while. This did not happen. My new friend and I travelled to Latacunga, a big town on the Panamericana and most people’s starting point for the Quilotoa loop trek. We decided to walk the loop over a period of 3 days, over which we would see the quieter and untouched side of Ecuador. But had more than a few moments of unce...

PISAC, OLLANTAYTAMBO AND CHINCHERO, PERU. May 27, 2015. September 25, 2015. Forewarning: none of the photos in this post will do justice any of what I saw today. I’m sat here, trying to figure out a way to communicate the absolute beauty of what I’ve seen and all I can think about is the fact we now have hot water. Pisac was our first stop and Reggie, our tour guide, informed us that the terraces here were used for growing orchids for ancient festivals and other plants and cereals. In the mountainsid...

MONTAÑITA, ECUADOR | DENYERS ADVENTURES

https://rosiedenyer.wordpress.com/2015/07/16/montanita-ecuador/comment-page-1

July 16, 2015. October 15, 2015. I am finally on the Ecuadorian mainland! After my week in Galapagos, its nice to be able to pay under $10 for a meal and to experience the country and culture everybody speaks so highly about. The nightlife here was great, and this party/beach town wakes up late, catering for common lie-ins and hangovers. I think the beach was the highlight for me, a mini-holiday within this busy South American trip. You can see all my photos from Ecuador here. Posted in South America.

The Cobbles of Colonia del Sacramento | KingLilith

The Cobbles of Colonia del Sacramento. July 14, 2015. I have never in my life seen a better sunset anywhere else in the world than I did later that day. The best way to describe Colonia is through pictures, so here are a few I took on our short stay. Buenos Aires: Take 1. Buenos Aires: Take Two. July 28, 2015. We came back to Buenos Aires primarily because it’s the easiest way to get back into Argentina from the part of Uruguay we were in, but we decided to stay in Buenos Aires for a further five nights to be able to do the things we had missed out on the first time. Here’s what we got up to on Buenos Aires Round Two. Also in the Palermo barrio, but closer to the main roads and metro stations is the Buenos Aires Botanical Gardens. Less iconic than the botanical garden...

From Gringo to Gaucho: Horse Riding on an Estancia | KingLilith

From Gringo to Gaucho: Horse Riding on an Estancia. July 21, 2015. On our way back from Montevideo to Colonia del Sacramento we stopped off and spent a few days on an estancia, a horse farm in the middle of the countryside, called El Galope. We stayed with Miguel and Monica who introduced us to rural Uruguayan life. We stayed in a converted stable, with views out of our window of rolling green fields and, of course, lots of horses. Continuing through Córdoba | KingLilith

https://kinglilith.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/continuing-through-cordoba

August 10, 2015. After a few days in Rosario we continued on to Cordoba, Argentina’s second largest city. We had heard good things about the culture, night life an the things to do in general, so we thought it might be a bit like Buenos Aires but perhaps a little less stuck up! I have to say, we were disappointed, and fellow travellers we’ve met since our visit to Cordoba have said the same. We rented a lovely flat from a very friendly couple called Gabi and Edgar,. Rosario | KingLilith

https://kinglilith.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/rosario

August 3, 2015. The Panama river stretches the length of Rosario (and beyond) and I think it’s a real asset to the city. For purely aesthetic purposes it makes walks in Rosario really pretty. There are several stretches of long park beside the river and even though it’s winter, the sun was shining and we took the opportunity to sit outside in the sun with a beer, watching the boats pass by. The Lanterns of Hoi An. October 9, 2016. With it’s traditional Vietnamese buildings, multi coloured lanterns, lush green countryside and white sandy beach, it’s no surprise that Hoi An is a very popular Vietnamese destination. It quickly became one of my favourite places on our Southeast Asia trip, and you could tell that many people felt the same way. It was very busy … Continue reading →. Montevideo’s Mixed Messages | KingLilith

https://kinglilith.wordpress.com/2015/07/19/montevideos-mixed-messages

Montevideo’s Mixed Messages. July 19, 2015. After a few days in Colonia we got a bus three hours East to the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo. Over one third of the 3.5 million Uruguayans live in Montevideo, and you get the sense that it’s a mini Buenos Aires (montevideanos probably wouldn’t like it being described as that! I felt a lot more warmly towards Colonia del Sacramento, which was small but welcoming, and a lot prettier than Montevideo. Montevideo is a pendulum swinging between good and bad; I ...
