Our one year honeymoon: April 2009

http://roughingitaroundtheworld.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 1, 2009. It was an uncomfortable 4 hours bus to Vientiene We were duped into buying ‘VIP’ bus tickets, which turned out to be a local bus but especially for foreigners. We snaked our way to Vientiene through an afternoon shower, something we haven’t seen in a few months. Having read about a special restaurant whose names translates as ‘Chilli’, we decided to dine for a cause that night. This special restaurant takes. Our next day was a busy one around the city, where we managed t. Vang V...

Our one year honeymoon: March 2009

Friday, March 20, 2009. All went well with the flight to. We arrived at Mumbai airport with a taxi driver who had obviously never been there before. We had to shout at him to exit the freeway to get to the airport, despite the fact that it was well sign posted. When he had to choose between departures and arrivals, he was totally baffled. I’m not sure if it w. Y a case that he didn’t know the difference or more worryingly he was a taxi driver who couldn’t read! Lying And we actually found a decent deal t...

Our one year honeymoon: November 2008

Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Way before dawn had us excitedly out of bed as today we go to Everest. Ok, we’re not exactly climbing Everest per se, we’ve booked an Everest mountain trip. Our means of transport; a Yeti! The elusive abdominal snowman has emerged in the guise of a national airline that conducts pleasure flights to Everest. After an hour and a half delay we eventually took to th. E skies in our Yeti disguise. Once we rose over the smog and grime of. It was akin to an ascension into heaven.

Our one year honeymoon: February 2009

http://roughingitaroundtheworld.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Kerala: Varkala, Kochi and the Backwaters. Varkala- we’re in love. Another infested train traversed us across the country, with a connecting one leading us to Varkala. One look at the cliff toped beach and line of friendly café’s and our disenchantment with India began to fade with our speckled bites. Varkala is wonderful, a Dharamsala in the sun. It has a lovely beach although a swim is a work out against the crashing waves. We're such train geeks! Instead we opted to take t...

Our one year honeymoon: Cafayate 1600m

http://roughingitaroundtheworld.blogspot.com/2009/08/cafayate-1600m.html

Sunday, August 30, 2009. More wine and mountains, we loved Cafayate. On our first day we checked out the quaint pretty town and had a tipsy lunch which included a sample of the local white wine- torrontés. We then took a walk out to a goat cheese farm where we bought some yummy herbed cheese. We finished the day at a bodega, taking a wine tour and sampling the local drop which was so good that we bought a bottle having it for dinner with the cheese, delicious! Which brings me to another highlight of Cafa...

The Odyssey of Rusty and Kelsi. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Hitch Hiking through Georgia and Armenia. One of the rides we hitched happened to be with a group of school children. They took a liking to us and even sang some traditional Georgian and Russian songs for us along the way! Armenia has close ties with Russia economically, culturally, and militarily. Rusty felt that Armenia still has a very strong former soviet block feel to it. Many Armenians speak Russian very well, which allowed Rusty opport...Our n...

The Odyssey of Rusty and Kelsi: May 2009

http://rustyandkelsi.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

The Odyssey of Rusty and Kelsi. Thursday, May 28, 2009. Well, it's been a year that we've been married now! May 24th that was anyway. Since "normal" life for us isn't so "normal" at the moment, what we really wanted to do on our anniversary was watch a movie at a movie theater. It's kind of funny how you always want a break from the version of life you happen to be living. But not THAT long of a break! Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Israel and The Palestinian Territories. The Odyssey of Rusty and Kelsi. Friday, November 28, 2008. Nepal's Bardia National Park. Almost a week ago we decided to exit Nepal and enter India by traveling overland to the famous Bardia National Park. Don't worry, we are in Northern India at the moment and far away from any of the unrest in Mumbai that you are seeing on the news. Thursday, November 27, 2008. http://rustyandkelsi.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

The Odyssey of Rusty and Kelsi. Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Being so far away from home, we weren't sure how to celebrate the approaching holidays. Fortunately India found a way to help us out in a rather unhelpful way (some happened to us and some happened to others):. Our Twelve Scams this Christmas. In the third scam this Christmas, a rickshaw driver lied to us that the prepaid taxi booth at the train station was closed and our only choice was to hire him for 5X the normal price. He had even tak...

Here are some more specific tips along with pictures below:. Take one primary bag and one day pack. Eagle Creek makes a really compactable day bag that can be stored and stuffed into it's own pocket the size of a potato. Make sure that you don't completely stuff your main bag: leave some empty space for souvenirs, etc. Combination l...

The Odyssey of Rusty and Kelsi. Friday, July 31, 2009. Spain isn't necessarily famous for wildlife, but in case you missed seeing animals from our Africa blogs, we thought we put in a picture of some ducks that were in the grounds of the "Cathedral" in central Barcelona. Spain is known for its tasty cuisine, and did not let us down! One of our best meals on the whole trip - including a reasonable price and all. Roughing it in Malawi. Wednesday, November 14, 2012. On our way going to fetch meat for the lion, a car pulled over a couple of 100m in front of us, the driver then opened his door and through a dog out and just drove off! We stop to check if the dog was okay, my dad then suggested that we take him and look after him. We did try and find the own but without any luck. Wednesday, August 7, 2013. The Beauty of The Difficult Child. I have a difficult child. I used to say I had a child with ADHD. Then it was a child with Anxiety. Or maybe it was food allergies. Or trauma. Or perhaps Oppositional behaviours. The child has been diagnosed with all of these and more. This is a child that for three years woke from every nap screaming and crying. Who required about an hour of comfort for the pure torture of having woken up. This is a difficult child. The child is simply a diffi...
