Afton, Okla. NOTE: This little motel, formerly known as the Grand Lake Country Inn, has no connection to this Web site. We do, however, like it a lot (and not just because it has a great name). Although it isn't as historic as some of the motels listed here, its cute theme rooms make it a memorable stop. Clean, pet-friendly, and very reasonably priced. For reservations, call (918) 257-8313. Holbrook, AZ. Roadside kitsch at its finest. The sign out front asks, "Have you slept in a wigwam lately? Canyon Motel and RV Park. Williams, AZ. Clean, comfortable and cheap, the Route 66 Inn is a perfect stopover before you take that side trip to the Grand Canyon. Friendly owners are big supporters of the road. Excellent value. Located in downtown Williams, which was the last town on Route 66 to be bypassed by the interstate. For reservations, call (928) 635-4791. Back to New Mexico.

St Louis, Mo. A good no-frills motel with cute 1940s-style brick cottages. Nothing fancy here; just a clean, quiet room at a reasonable price. The Mother Road Route 66. Traveling the Main Street of America 2009. Day 14.June 12, 2009. Today we left Sedona and then backtracked a few miles east on 66 to visit Meteor Crater where a meteor left a well preserved HUGE HOLE in the desert. We had to pass it by on the way in due to time constraints but it was well worth the time to go back for. After taking the day exploring the canyon we finally reached our destination for the night well after dark! For a whole lot of pictures. Get Your Kicks on Route 66.

According to Wikipedia, “In 1938 Roy Crowl opened “Roy’s” as a service station on Route 66 in Amboy. Roy, together with his wife Velma owned the town.”. Here are some great photos my sister took during their recent Harley trip. Two of the photos were taken in front of the Roy’s Cafe Sign. Notice the Route 66 emblem on the sign. You learned to walk, now learn to ride. Join us at Route 66 Motorcycle Safety Course at MSSU in the adventure of learning to ride a motorcycle. Motorcycles, DOT helmets, gloves and eye wear are provided at the course but students may use own gear if they have it. Long pants, preferably jeans-no holes. Long sleeved shirt or jacket. Sturdy, over-the-ankle boots. DOT approved 3/4 or Full Face Helmet Required. No refunds for any reason but will work with students given circumstances. .
