Running after 60

Saturday, April 21, 2012. I'm not sure how to write this blog so I thought I would just go day by day of our trip to Boston and the race! I will warn you in advance that this will probably be a long post! Day 1 Fri. Apr. 13: Yes that's right we flew out on Friday the 13th! So much merchandise-so little time. Yes I spent way to much and no I didn't need everything I bought but in my mind I needed it! I couldn't go to sleep and when I did I woke up almost every hour( which is fairly routine for me). Running after 60: January 2012

http://www.runningafter60.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Feeling Stronger Every Day". What a race weekend! I wish I was good at putting what I think into words but I'm not so I will do my best to make this less painful to read. I guess I can start by saying there are now 2 more things I can cross off my bucket list: 1. Seeing the Olympic trials and 2. Running the Aramco half marathon. After all I am "Feeling Stronger Every Day". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Feeling Stronger Every Day. View my complete profile.

Sunday, May 29, 2011. Sunday, May 22, 2011. Thursday, May 19, 2011. Houston I'm one step closer! Friday, May 13, 2011. Whatever Happened to the Easy Runs? The question comes to mind if it hurts so much then why do I do it, I could say that what doesn't kill you makes you better but the real reason is simple. I still feel a great sense of accoplishment and pride everytime I finish a run no matter the distance or time. Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Saturday, May 7, 2011. Friday, May 6, 2011.

Running after 60: July 2011

http://www.runningafter60.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 29, 2011. The Times They are a Changing! It's funny to me how our goals seem to change in running through the years and miles. When I first started running (the 2nd time around) I had only one goal-to lose weight-as much and as soon as possible. This goal worked out real well. After turning 50(with age comes wisdom? Now I have new goals and they are very simple ones. I think they have changed again because of a combination of age, heat, miles, and a little wisdom on my part. It's hard to bel...

Running after 60: October 2011

http://www.runningafter60.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 21, 2011. That was then, This is now! Even at Boston and New York I was more concerned with my finishing time than anything else. I had a goal and I wanted to reach it. I also was concerned where I finished and how I compared to other runners my age at some best races in the world. Needless to say I didn't compare as well as I would have liked to but to me that was more important than a finishers medal. When did the finishers medals become so important to me? Friday, October 14, 2011.

Marathon training for dummies: September 2011

Marathon training for dummies. The trials and tribulations of a first time runner. Monday, September 19, 2011. Lannie's Ladies Take 4. Another cause that is close to my heart is the NOCC, which is the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. I became acquainted with this cause after a dear friend of mine, Lannie told us she had ovarian cancer. Luckily it was detected in the earlier stages, they were able to do a hysterectomy and remove all the cancer. She was one of the lucky ones! Go Lannie, Go! Symptoms exis...

Marathon training for dummies. The trials and tribulations of a first time runner. Sunday, October 24, 2010. 20 miles and I survived! Moving on to the 20 miler.ran the first 8 with the girls and did the other 12 solo. Might I mention that the lows today were 65 and it had about a 90% humidity level. Not the optimal conditions for a long run of any length, especially not the grand daddy of all runs, not the 20 miler. Ugh! Date: 10/23/2010 7:00 AM. Type: Run (Long run). Distance: 20.19 miles. Marathon training for dummies. The trials and tribulations of a first time runner. Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Another half down Austin Livestrong Half Marathon. Let me start by saying that I was very excited about this race in particular for many reasons. First, I was going to be running the third event to achieve my "Marathons of Texas" medal. Secondly, I was going to stay with my really good friend, Stacy, that I just adore, that I haven't seen in about 5 years. The (REALLY) BIG ONE (mile 11.8). This is a...

Marathon training for dummies. The trials and tribulations of a first time runner. Tuesday, September 28, 2010. I have never heard the term before, but I think we coined a new one. Heavy run.tonight we were all running and it seemed like we had lead in our feet. Maybe it was something in the air. My heart rate stayed lower than it usually is for all my runs and I felt like I was really struggling to eek out 4 measly miles. Why is that? Date: 09/28/2010 7:08 PM. Type: Run (Interval run). Marathon training for dummies. The trials and tribulations of a first time runner. Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Well, it is finally here, the 10 miler day! It will only go up from here, mileage-wise, so time to buckle down and keep my eye on the prize. The big picture is a PR at White Rock. A PR at 13.1 would be super too! THAT, my friends, is why I keep coming back for more. 45 days to White Rock Marathon and many more miles to go. Next week we will be running 14. Bring it! Get your cool TNT gear!

http://trainingdummies.blogspot.com/2011/10/what-difference-year-makes.html

Marathon training for dummies. The trials and tribulations of a first time runner. Saturday, October 1, 2011. What a difference a year makes. Today marks a very special day for me in running. It is the day that I have crossed 1,000 miles. I have run 1,000 miles with my my two feet, my creaky knees and my once-upon-a-time smoker lungs! I have the bug, I have a new lease on life, I LOVE TO RUN. All because I bought some running shoes and I TRIED! Over time, running got easier, it got to be joyous. I lo...

Running After 50

When I run, everything's okay. Wednesday, August 3, 2011. 169; Ugur Akinci. There is nothing that sharpens the mind like a deadline. And there is nothing that sharpens the leg muscles like lightning and rain. Today, after returning home from work, I put on my jogging shoes. And got out under heavy gray skies. I knew rain might be coming but I thought I could complete my 5K without getting caught. A runner gotta be an optimist, especially if he is over 50 :-). Another day. Another (perhaps) 3K. Do you read running magazines? August 12, 2015. If you’re reading this blog, then I’m assuming that you’re a blog reader. More specifically, a running blog reader. I’m curious though – with all the information you can now get for free from the internet, do you still pay for things like running magazines? Are you also a magazine reader? I ask because I’ve been trying to figure out if I’m a magazine reader myself. Honestly, I’m pretty sure that I would have told you that I’m not. Also a magazine reader?

Race of the year, the Tannenbaum 10k. I won’t beat around the bush: I crushed it. Earned a new 10k PB with a time of 53:17.
