Running for Pancakes

A compilation of some of my running, hiking and climbing adventures. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Rescue in the Gorge: Right Place at the Right Time. I always get nervous watching people above the falls. This day was no exception. There was a family with a couple of kids and a dog off leash standing on a rock right above the falls. All I could think of was what would happen if they slipped. Not wanting to be around to watch someone fall, we quickly hurried on. When are they coming? Are they coming soon? Adam d...

Running for Pancakes: July 2011

http://www.runningforpancakes.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

A compilation of some of my running, hiking and climbing adventures. Sunday, July 31, 2011. My first 50 - Part II. It seemed like a pretty quick trip back to the Start after the turnaround. People in the campground we ran past on the way out were waking up and were curiously watching us as all these runners with numbers went running past their campsites. The coffee in the air smelled delicious and I was wishing I had been able to start my day with a cup. Sunday, July 10, 2011. Official time - 1:57:24.

Running for Pancakes: Recovery

http://www.runningforpancakes.blogspot.com/2014/02/recovery.html

A compilation of some of my running, hiking and climbing adventures. Friday, February 7, 2014. I'm not strong enough. I thought I would break, mentally and physically, if I had to take three weeks away from my drug of choice - exercise. While I was overjoyed to have finished my first 100 and cross that historic finish line, I wasn't happy with my time. I felt I showed weakness on the course. Weakness in the face of adversity. I wasn't strong enough out there. You're not strong enough," I heard in my head.

Running for Pancakes: August 2014

A compilation of some of my running, hiking and climbing adventures. Monday, August 25, 2014. Cascade Crest 100 - Race Report. Cascade Crest 100 race profile. You think that hill training might be important with this one? What can you do with that one? In 100 mile race no finish is ever a given. My crew tried to reassure me that they were out here to support me and didn't care if I made it 10 miles or 100 miles - they would be by my side either way. At the pre-race briefing. Miles 1 - 23. Mile 23 - 53.

Running for Pancakes: January 2010

http://www.runningforpancakes.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

A compilation of some of my running, hiking and climbing adventures. Wednesday, January 13, 2010. I have set a goal of running 1500 miles this year. I plan for those to all be outdoor miles, not treadmill miles. That would be 400 more miles than last year, so it will be a significant increase, but I think I can do it if I stay focused. April will be a return to Race for the Roses. It's a Half-Marathon, and will be good training for the Eugene Marathon as it comes three weeks before that date. My ...May w...

Running for Pancakes: May 2011

http://www.runningforpancakes.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

A compilation of some of my running, hiking and climbing adventures. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Ridgeline Ramble Trail Marathon. I got my stuff prepped on Thursday night in order to make Friday night a little bit easier. Friday night came, we had an early dinner, and were in bed around 10. The alarm came early Saturday morning - 3:30 am. I put on some coffee for Adam and hopped in the shower to loosen up my muscles a bit. We were dressed and ready to go by 4:20. I had figured would meet up with Adam and Alic...

Run Hard. Be Strong. Think Big. Photo by Ed Dawson. Each year for several years, my husband. And I had an annual challenge. One year we biked around Cayuga Lake. Another we ran our first half marathon, and the third year we tackled our first sprint triathlon. After the sprint tri we were hooked on exercise! Lake Swimming – Summer 2015. Lake Swim #4 – Success! A MILE in Cayuga Lake. 3 days until the CLT. In anticipation of lake swimming, I went for a baseline pool mile swim. Total Immersion Session 3.

Hanging Out at Horsetail Falls… Literally – aprilmeads

https://aprilmeads.wordpress.com/2015/06/03/hanging-out-at-horsetail-falls-literally

June 3, 2015. November 19, 2015. Hanging Out at Horsetail Falls… Literally. April Meads, 2015. What I thought was going to be a fun and relaxing hike with my sister turned out to be the most terrifying day of our lives, and one that we will never forget. After spending some time there and climbing to the other side of the pool of water for different angles for pictures, we moved forward. We somehow got off the Horsetail trail and onto Oneonta Gorge. We used this as our checkpoint as to where we were and ...

Run Hard. Be Strong. Think Big. Intermediate Cayuga Lake Triathlon 2016. August 8, 2016. Middot; 2 Comments. August 7, 2016 Training This year Scott and I decided we were ready to give the intermediate triathlon distance of the Cayuga Lake Triathlon a go! Run Hard. Be Strong. Think Big. Cayuga Lake Triathlon 2015. August 5, 2015. Middot; 8 Comments. Our parents hanging out waiting for us to swim! The CLT tops my list for favorite events. Located just 3 miles from my house in the beautiful Taughannock Falls State Park, it is a beautiful location. It’s a time to see so many people I know out on the course! Friends, fellow Finger Lakes Running and Triathlon Company. Ambassadors, and of course my family! 8221; I saw Anne and Katie. She loves the water and has...

Time to Tri! - Skirt Runner

http://skirtrunner.com/swim/time-to-tri

Run Hard. Be Strong. Think Big. July 30, 2015. Middot; 4 Comments. Only 3 days remain until the Cayuga Lake Triathlon. I’ve been in the lake 14 times since July 2nd. Prior to that I took an entire year of Total Immersion swim lessons with Shane Eversfield. During my self declared, “year of the swim” I’ve made new friends, learned to embrace the lake, and I’ve dramatically improved both my swim technique and my pool cardio fitness level. Thanks to Katie for handling the wasps for Elizabeth). By the time w...

Marathon Training Plans - Skirt Runner

http://skirtrunner.com/training/marathon

Run Hard. Be Strong. Think Big. For 2012, the annual challenge that Scott and I chose was the Rochester Marathon. We’d completed the Rochester Half. And participated in the relay. Naturally, the next step was to complete the full. I’ve since completed the Wineglass Marathon. And the Philadelphia Marathon. I chose the Hal Hidgon Novice 2 Marathon Plan. You have a nice running base, and typically run 15-25 miles per week. You occasionally/regularly compete in races. You enjoy running 4 times per week.

Running For Om

Tuesday, January 27, 2015. So, in my last post. Enter the tempo run. Tempo runs are those run at a faster than easy clip, and here's the kicker, AT A STEADY PACE. Until recently, because of this, I declared tempo runs and treadmills entirely incompatible and I simply didn't do them. I had been running some of my runs pretty fast for my pace anyway, so there. Sort of like a tempo run without the agony. But this year, I am using the Hanson's marathon training plan. So what's the trick? I take issue because...

Running For Public Office. Rem C Westland ( rwestland@rogers.com. This overview and the diary that follows will be of interest to a great many people. The book was written most specifically, however, for those who consider running for public office at the federal or provincial level in Canada after having proven themselves in the course of their chosen careers. This is what happened to me. This overview draws from the diary of one person’s 600 days of engagement in the nitty-gritty world of volunte...
