So, what happens then? | Running My Life

https://runningmylife.wordpress.com/2013/09/18/so-what-happens-then

So, what happens then? September 18, 2013. Here’s the current household dilemma: The kid has “a crush” (his words, not mine) on a girl. That’s right. My baby likes a girl. 8-years-old. Third grade. Like LIKE-likes a girl. How did this happen? The kid: One friend said I should just tell her. Me: That seems like sound advice. Me: That sounds like an awful lot of trouble for everyone involved. And then what if it gets lost? Or goes in the wrong mailbox? Or she knows someone else with your name? Larr; Here&#...

Here’s one way to spend a Thursday evening | Running My Life

https://runningmylife.wordpress.com/2013/09/05/heres-one-way-to-spend-a-thursday-evening

Here’s one way to spend a Thursday evening. September 5, 2013. We just got back from the ER. Diagnosis for the kid: VERY mild concussion. He’s fine, really, the doctor’s instructions are just to monitor him for symptoms for a couple of days. How did we get here? It started with this conversation we had on the way home from school. Kid: My head hurts. Me: I’m sorry, do you need some medicine? Kid: No, I think it’s just because I got hit in the head with three balls at recess. Me: Wait, what? From → K...

Steve’s Letter to Santa | Running My Life

https://runningmylife.wordpress.com/2014/12/04/steves-letter-to-santa

Steve’s Letter to Santa. December 4, 2014. The kid tells me you’re the guy to talk to about wishes. I don’t know a lot about Christmas because this is my first one. I don’t really get it – I’m not sure why they won’t let me eat those GIANT. Socks that are hanging up (LOOK at it – big and fuzzy and tasty! Or how a tree grew inside the living room (and what are those shiny things all over it, anyway? But the kid says you can wish for things at Christmas, so here I am. To learn. And a whole lotta don’ts .

Ice, Ice, Baby | Running My Life

https://runningmylife.wordpress.com/2014/01/30/ice-ice-baby

Ice, Ice, Baby. January 30, 2014. Yesterday was a snow day. The kid hopped out of bed at 7 am and spent most of the day doing this:. He had a friend over, they played outside, we had hot chocolate, a fire in the fireplace, you know, all the “snow day” things. Today, when he got up, he said, “Mom! Look at all the cool icicles outside! No, maybe that’s just snow melting and the wind is blowing it. No… wait…”. Me: Hey, is there something you want to tell me about the hose outside? Add the garden hose to tha...

Fetch! | Running My Life

https://runningmylife.wordpress.com/2013/08/14/fetch

August 14, 2013. Benny has finally learned to fetch! My childhood dog, Brandy, could fetch. It was more of a scramble-after-the-ball-since-your-feet-don’t-work-on-the-kitchen-floor kind of situation, but he went after it enthusiastically and came back with the ball eventually, all ready to do it again, seemingly forgetting the slippery floor. The first dog I had as an adult, Maxie, could fetch. She LOVED it. So much, in fact, that I got her one of those automatic tennis ball throwers. Bring me the duck!

Blowing out the candles | Coffee and Chit Chat

https://coffeeandchitchat.wordpress.com/2013/04/11/blowing-out-the-candles

Coffee and Chit Chat. On falling back →. Blowing out the candles. April 11, 2013. Today is my mother’s birthday. I was visiting family recently and made one of my twice-a-year visits to my storage building to see if I could clear out a little bit of the stuff. I cleared out a few boxes and spent some time shuffling through papers and binders and folders and envelopes. I discovered the Big Box o’ Tupperware just as I was finishing up. (Treasures, I say! Happy birthday, Mom. On falling back →. Notify me of...

Coffee and Chit Chat. No more pencils, no more books. Good day sunshine →. New Year’s Revolutions. January 16, 2013. Bean announced on January 1st that we hadn’t even made any “New Year’s Revolutions”. I asked her what kind of changes she would like to make this year to improve her life, and she said she would like to eat more candy and watch more movies. You know, I can’t really argue with her. Those sound pretty good. And what more do I need? Life has suddenly become Very Very Busy. It all feels a ...

Bean has two weeks of kindergarten, and then summer officially starts at our house. Last summer, Baby Brother’s first summer, was a blur of naps and nursing sessions. Coffee and Chit Chat. Rock around the clock →. You down with GSP? April 25, 2012. I’ve started calling it Grocery Store Paralysis. And goodness, all the chemicals in everything! The ingredients list on a box of cereal is enough to make me weep, so I tell myself that my children shouldn’t really be eating that junk anyway. Plain rolled oats are a much better option! Except that Bean doesn’t like oatmeal. I have lots of homemade breakfast options in the freezer, but sometimes? Should I get it? Blowing out ...

Coffee and Chit Chat. Is it me you’re looking for? Clearing out Memory Lane. May 12, 2010. More than 700 miles from my house, I have a storage unit full of. Most of it belonged to my mother when she died. Quite a lot of it belonged to me, but was in storage at my mom’s house while I was away at college. Some of it is even from college. What about her clothes? I couldn’t get rid of her clothes, could I? What if I didn’t want to keep things that she loved? But then there are the treasures. Or the framed bl...

Running My Half Off

Running My Half Off. One Mama's quest to complete a half marathon. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Why is it that some days I can run at a solid 9:45-10minute pace and other days I struggle to stay at a 10:30-10:45 pace? I need consistency in my life. WHEN WILL RUNNING BE EASY? Phew, I feel a bit better now that I got that off my chest. Now, I was determined to run 9 miles in exactly 1hr 30 minutes.and then I got lost. The run itself was good not great, although when you have an AH-MAZING run like I did on ...

Running My Heart Out

Monday, March 5, 2012. It's been a while. It's been a while since I've written so I thought I'd do a quick update of the last few months. I'm not sure what got into me, but last year I decided to enter The Northface 100. Ever since then, I've just been panicked about it. It's not that I didn't think I could do it, I knew I could do it physically, I just wasn't sure I had the mental strength, or if I did, it would come at a cost to other areas in my life. It was such a hard decision. So in the meantime I ...
