Headspace Meditation App Review | Runs With Blisters
https://runswithblisters.wordpress.com/2014/03/01/headspace-meditation-app-review
Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. Headspace Meditation App Review. Thank you tea tag. You are not helpful at all. To meditate, simply sit and exist or sit and think about nothing. Gag. I don’t know about anyone else, but I call bullshit. These condescending and oversimplified euphemisms have never helped me actually meditate. I saw the Headspace app for smart phones in a fitness magazine that described it as a free, easy way to start meditating if. You’re not all zen and one with the universe.
Tent Yoga | Runs With Blisters
https://runswithblisters.wordpress.com/2014/09/29/tent-yoga
Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. Yoga doesn’t always involve a mat, Sun Salutations and Downward Dog. Sometimes after a frigid night sleeping on a thin foam pad in the mountains, you need to move slow and wake up achy joints. Yoga and exercise don’t “have” to be any one thing. Release your preconceived notions and move in ways that feel good to you. Filmed in Pike National Forest, Colorado on Sunday September 14th, 2014. Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window). How to Live Life Like a Vacation | Runs With Blisters
https://runswithblisters.wordpress.com/2014/08/22/returning-from-vacation-sucks
Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. How to Live Life Like a Vacation. My husband and I recently returned from a week-long vacation in Southern Colorado with my extended family. As with all vacations, coming home. Brought on the inevitable wave of vacation hangover. I longed for the huge cabin full of family and day-long hiking trips into the mountains. The thought of returning to real life made me ache. I flat-out refused. No, I didn’t quit my job and run away into the mountains,. Because that pos...

Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. Promises You Don’t Intend to Keep. Posted on December 27, 2011. Tis the season for those irksome New Year’s Resolutions. You know, those soaring dreams contrived over too many glasses of Holiday Cheer on New Year’s Eve, given a half-hearted attempt for a week or so, and quickly abandoned. Sick of the yearly cycle? 3 2 1 Haaaapy New Year! Image by LeSimonPix via Flickr). You will not suddenly eat all vegetarian, hit the gym every day, cut out all sugar. Go watch ...
March Challenge: Squats | Runs With Blisters
https://runswithblisters.wordpress.com/2014/04/07/march-challenge-squats
Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. My squat challenge ended on March 31. Thank the glorious powers that be! That challenge was horribly tedious, mind-numbingly boring, and a little painful. Of course, I completed the challenge completely differently. Exactly as dictated by the exasperating. Lovely spreadsheet. I skied 5 days in March, so I counted those as squat days. I used rest days when I forgot. I will admit, I quit from complete boredom. Think I will survive this failure. The first movement ...

All-species fitness: The light stuff: anglerfish brighten up the depths
http://www.allspeciesfitness.com/2015/04/the-light-stuff-anglerfish-brighten-up.html
Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Thursday, April 9, 2015. The light stuff: anglerfish brighten up the depths. Goldfish showing off its tremendous fish-ness. Think of the fish you know best. They may look like this orange guy:. Having a certain hydro-dynamic shape facilitates movement in the ocean, so faster-moving fish (and marine mammals - think dolphins) tend to taper on both ends. In the ocean's depths, however, speed is less critical for survival. In patterns we don't yet understand.
All-species fitness: Commuting canines
http://www.allspeciesfitness.com/2013/04/commuting-canines.html
Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Tuesday, April 23, 2013. When you have to take care of yourself in the urban jungle, a dose of instinct, ingenuity, and teamwork is mighty helpful. Blending in on the train. A motley crew of hundreds of stray dogs. Live in the suburbs of Moscow but commute into the city on the subway. To scavenge and beg for food scraps in the more fruitful (ha ha) downtown districts. This odd daily migration was the dogs' speedy (and highly adaptive! Like birds, mice, and liz...

All-species fitness: May 2015

Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Coffee is good (and bad, but mostly good) for you! Welcome to another Monday morning, and for many people, a fresh cup (or 2.) of coffee. Which is actually a Good Thing: despite the guilty pleasure and bad reputation coffee has generated, there is growing consensus among medical researchers that drinking coffee improves, rather than harms our health and fitness. All-species fitness: Trees and priorities
http://www.allspeciesfitness.com/2015/04/trees-and-priorities.html
Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Saturday, April 18, 2015. As you breathe while reading this on your wireless device, consider the trees and other plants that take in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. To help you out. Our collective fitness literally depends on them continuing to do that! Living trees and other plants help us in many other ways too, by creating cleaner, cooler. Quieter environments for us and for other animals, who in turn pollinate plants. What is biological fitness?
Why It’s A Bad Idea to Overload Your Kindle Book – CATHERINE RYAN HOWARD

She turns coffee into books so she can afford to buy more coffee. And more books. Why It’s A Bad Idea to Overload Your Kindle Book. June 27, 2012. June 26, 2012. This week I read a rather disturbing but highly illuminating post about something I rarely think about and have never mentioned before: the fact that Amazon takes “delivery charges” out of our Kindle book profits. You can read the whole post by Andrew Hyde here. If you’re on the 35% royalty rate, you’re all in. Amazon doesn’...Yes, these ar...

http://www.allspeciesfitness.com/2015/05/strategic-coffee-beer-consumption.html
Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Sunday, May 3, 2015. Strategic coffee - beer consumption. We recently learned how caffeine affects our brain. And nervous system, keeping us alert and awake by blocking the compound adenosine. From telling us we need to sleep and causing chemical reactions that increase brain activity. In case that was too much to read or process, here's a simplified version that also suggests strategic consumption of both coffee and beer! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
All-species fitness: Avoid ivory and help protect the largest among us

Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Saturday, March 16, 2013. Avoid ivory and help protect the largest among us. You’d think that being the world’s largest land animal, by far, would keep you safe from certain things, such as getting hunted. It’s mostly true, but not true enough to keep elephants fit these days. One of my first posts. Elephants look for (and find! Water at the Samburu River, Kenya. Trunks: useful for picking up food, moving branches, and spraying water. They eat plants and mainl...

Hills, Waves & Wheels
Hills, Waves and Wheels. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. A duff forecast for the fells. August is a month I associate with rain. Rain and midges. Starting with that as my premise for a day in the fells or afloat, is perhaps the best means of ensuring motivation remains until the typical improvement seen at some point in September before the autumn gales. Yet the mountain forecasts called for clearing skies and warm sunshine - no less than 17. Looking back into the fells from the head of the valley and the first ...

Runs With Blisters | sick of blisters; searching for happiness
Sick of blisters; searching for happiness. Adventures on the Elimination Diet. Posted on February 9, 2015. I’ve known since summer that my body no longer enjoys dairy. Eating dairy products gives me sinus headaches sometimes severe enough that I wonder if my face is attempting to explode off my head. Although I haven’t taken a food allergy test, I call it a food allergy because anti-histamine medication almost makes life worth living. Helps alleviate my symptoms. After 6 months of staying mostly. Eggs, c...

Runs with Boxers
Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The Arnold Classic Recap, and Tuesday Excitement. So I mentioned last time that I was planning to go spend a day at The Arnold Classic. And see a bunch of sporting activities. So I will tell you that overall I had a good time, and spent the day walking around the Expo, watching various sporting events, and being severely grossed out (more about that in a minute). On the other hand, it was cool to be in a huge crowd of people that are so into fitness. We spent all day long at the Ex...

I started this blog as a way to keep my friends and family up to date while I was hibernating in grad school at Syracuse University in 2006-2007. Half Marathon Training has begun. Oh boy. What in the world have I gotten myself into? My TNT running group. I'm not going to hash out the details of my training experiences just yet. L...
