Huka Falls is the spot where NZ’s longest river, the Waikato, is slammed into a narrow chasm, making a dramatic 10m drop (33 ft) into a surging pool. It looked like Six Flag’s Thunder River on steroids, and it was so LOUD. I knew photos wouldn’t do it justice, so I took amateur videos for you. Pretty impressive, huh?

March 13, 2015. September 29, 2015. Today we made it south of Whangarei for the first time since we arrived. It was a beautiful drive with green, rolling hills. Our first stop was Waipu Caves. Before heading into the caves, we walked the cave trail. The trail wound up through a dappled, rocky forest. And ended at the top of a section of farmland. April 1, 2015. September 29, 2015. Ben planned a four-day tour of the southern part of the North Island. Our next stop was an hour south at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. It was, hands down, the stinkiest place I’ve ever been. Sulphur, sulphur, sulphur! In the couple of hours that we were there, I never got used to the smell.
