The training and tribulations of a Budding MTB'r (and dad). Saturday, September 22, 2012. 2012 XC Marathon Champs. In a very below average year, this was going to be the big one for me. The National Marathon Champs is the one race that motivates me than any other. You get the countries top riders on the most challenging course, in terms of distance, climbing and techy-ness. Then the race began in earnest. My plan was the same as when I won in 2010. This was tricky first time around with some brakes, but ...

The training and tribulations of a Budding MTB'r (and dad). Wednesday, January 25, 2012. 2012 setback number 1. Got some weird head cold / sinus thing. Has totally flattened me since last Friday. And things were going okish too. I'd not started on the Turbo trainer, but was planning on doing a bit this week. I don't think I can do much more than put the feet up and take it easy (well as much as you can with 2 kids). I won't be stressing about not hitting my training plan that's for sure :). I used the bi...

Sean Downey: CX Nationals - a race too far
http://seandowney.blogspot.com/2012/04/cx-nationals-race-too-far.html
Wednesday, April 18, 2012. CX Nationals - a race too far. This one has stewing in the editor for a while, much like the experience stews in my head. The final (and finale! Of the CX season is the National Champs in St Anne's Park, taking place a month after the last race in Ireland. It's a chance to see who trained hard over Christmas and who over-indulged on the turkey and Roses. It's also a chance to see who has remained healthy over the cold, wet period, and that was where I fell down. The experience ...

When is an achievement not an achievement. April 1, 2014. Recently I’ve found myself wondering if some of the work I do is really worth it. And I’m not talking about civilization level cancer research type is it worth it, but is it worth it just on my level, for me. Completing a large work goal, yes it helps them the company, and you might feel great about it. Will you be remembered for it? Will you yourself even remember it in a few weeks? What about a few months? Do you even know where you are going?

Sean Downey: March 2011
http://seandowney.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Early season road racing. The first MTB race is just around the corner, so up to now I've been focussing on some early season road racing to get some race sharpness in the legs - and there's nothing like a good road race for some AC training. Ras Naomh Finian, Clonard. The race was remarkable only for the fact that it was cold, wet and windy. And there was snow! St Patrick's Day race, Dunboyne. The second race was the St Patrick's Day race in Dunboyne, promoted by Usher IRC.
