Glenn's Travels South

From Costa Rica and beyond. Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Of Gravel Roads and Frontier Towns. It's about time my travel/riding blog be updated. I am now back in Vermont, where after just a couple days my lawn is mowed and raked and my house clean and livable. The school year will start very soon, so why not procrastinate by writing one last blog entry? To Goose Bay/Happy Valley. So how was the ride? How could my bike consume so much fuel? In my half-sleep I complained about the sleeping bag, not knowing that...

Glenn's Travels South: June 2012

http://sabbaticalglenn.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

From Costa Rica and beyond. Friday, June 22, 2012. The Last Few Weeks in S. America. Outside the house. Hopefully the bears will now forget my home and stop prowling around the neighborhood (my poor neighbors). This drama is still not resolved, as the tenants still have lots of stuff in my house and of course a huge clean up job awaits me when I get back. I expected that to a certain degree, but this is more than I had imagined. More goodbyes are coming in the next couple days before my flight to Miami&#...

Glenn's Travels South: January 2012

http://sabbaticalglenn.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

From Costa Rica and beyond. Friday, January 27, 2012. The ride to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca was just a bit more than we wished to drive in a single day. All four of us were keen to go camping and by four o´clock, Mark had picked a small dirt drive that led to a gently sloping field just out of sight of the highway. Perfect! But how when not a single tree was in sight? After an early breakfast (including pancakes! Wednesday, January 25, 2012. That evening, I was checking Facebook and saw that Ni...

Glenn's Travels South: February 2012

http://sabbaticalglenn.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

From Costa Rica and beyond. Friday, February 17, 2012. I am writing from Chaiten, Patagonia, Chile. This town was nearly wiped out four years ago when a volcano erupted and dumped mounds of ash here. Some homes are still filled with ash. Others are now homes again, while still others are abandoned - a result of government efforts to build a new town nearby. The policy flopped. It has been a while since I have posted a new blog entry and, of course, I could go on and on. Instead, I am going to list a ...

Glenn's Travels South: A Really Fine Night

http://sabbaticalglenn.blogspot.com/2012/06/really-fine-night.html

From Costa Rica and beyond. Wednesday, June 13, 2012. A Really Fine Night. The following comes from an evening about three weeks ago. I took notes as it was happening. I realize that some of the likenesses drawn in this journal-style entry will mean nothing to those who don´t know the persons referenced. But it is my blog after all :). I stepped in and found a white haired jazz band playing It Had To Be You. The trombonist with his generous round belly and simple button-up shirt reminded me of my Grandpa...

Glenn's Travels South: May in BA

http://sabbaticalglenn.blogspot.com/2012/05/may-in-ba.html

From Costa Rica and beyond. Friday, May 11, 2012. Nevertheless, things are good here in Buenos Aires. My explorations of this city continue - and there is a LOT to explore and observe. Walk through Buenos Aires on a nice, sunny, weekend day or holiday and you will see people walking with friends and family, sitting at nice cafes, or chilling out with their kids and dogs and sipping yerba maté (a traditional green tea). That´s what I did on May Day. At the time, I was reading Pamuk´s. My Name is Red.

berichten uit new haven

Berichten uit new haven. Maandag 21 december 2009.

On a Sabbatical Reclaiming Body and Balance…. Bryan and I have been back from our SE Asia adventure for a few weeks now. Twenty hours of travel had us going from tropical heat into the Bay Area’s crisp fall air. A surreal experience for sure. This has been a fun outlet for me, though — and I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride too. Filed under Thailand, Baby! Fish Spa and Love American Style, Cambodia. This gallery contains 3 photos. Sabbatical Girl

Friday, February 5, 2010. A sabbatical year sounds like only 12 months, but really it last much longer. In fact, it started months (years? Before as we started making plans for how to spend this precious time. And now here I am one week into my return to work and I still feel like it's part of that year. So for all of you who are wondering what it's like to be back - well, it's good. Each morning this week I was excited to be at the office. And why not? Tuesday, January 26, 2010. One week to go. In some ...

Today, I am delighted to find myself back at work with my friends- -going to lunch, and catching up on all I've missed. It's good to be back. But it means the end of this blog! Maybe I'll start another one somewhere else. I'll let you know. Maybe it will be 'professor grrrl'. ; ). Saturday, August 1, 2009. Anyway. A rousing success.
