My intention here is to detail exactly what I have spent during the on-going restoration of Sally. The costs will be broken into two sections:. Direct costs will be parts & labour paid for. Indirect costs will be things like that engineers bench vice that I have been promising myself for a while but now need to work on Sally.

Maybe this should be subtitled: Wheels and Tyres, Exhaust, Suspension, Steering and Brakes. Started striping the wheel hubs, shocks and brakes from both sides - God what a nightmare! EVERY bolt was seized up! Had to buy a gas bottle welding kit so I could apply a little heat to free things off. Cost was about £150.00 but worth every penny as I could not have done most of this without it. Bolts that I couldn't free up with some heat got attacked with my grinder with a cutting disc. 6 x GHF103 Screws.

Apart from the satisfaction of owning and restoring an MGB, many owners, like myself do not treat them as exhibits. A classic car should be driven and enjoyed. As and when Sally is ready for the road I will use her as often as possible. Road trips to follow.

What do I really want from my MGB? It's actually quite difficult to explain what I really want from my MGB Roadster! I want something to be proud of. I want something reliable. I want something that is comfortable. I want something different! I know. a bit vague. I have only driver her once (scaring myself silly when the brakes didn't work on the way home! I know I have lots of mechanical work to complete. I know that the electrics need sorting. I know that there is some cosmetic stuff to do.

Runs like a dream.". That's how the previous owner (PO) described the engine and to be honest, apart from needing petrol addative to run with unleaded petrol, there is very little for me to do here. When the weather is better next year, I plan to strip the head and have it reconditioned and have the valve seats done for unleaded or replace it with an already reconditioned one. The area around the engine (i.e. under the bonnet) is another story however!

Mitzi the MGA Roadster. Sally The MGB Roadster. Ok I admit it. I'm a fan of MGs. The style and design of these beautiful cars really 'grabs' me. But let's be honest. They are a bit agricultural. This website is called 'www.notforpurists.co.uk' so obviously my plans for MG restoration would not be appreciated by anyone who insists on totally original 'concourse' specification.
