An American in Istanbul. January 5, 2015. Ot back from America, but for Christmas, so it is a little funny to be writing about my trip there in the summer. In the summer, both Cengiz and I went and that was his fourth time. Cengiz and I on the boardwalk. In all my years of going to Virginia Beach, I had never really gone to the boardwalk but every year with Cengiz I go. He likes the liveliness of it, which he needs after living in Istanbul for so many years. Trying to get a selfie with Spanky. Dad had my...

An American in Istanbul. September 10, 2014. Random things (as usual). In my defense of lack of posts, I have been traveling! So that means lots of blog posts coming up! Our good friend Yeda got married in May, and I got to be her witness! I was really scared I wouldn’t understand the questions that were asked and everyone would laugh at me (oh isn’t she cute! It wouldn’t be spring time without a Eurovision party! Last year Denmark won so my friend from Denmark made some delicious cookies. There̵...

An American in Istanbul. November 27, 2014. Just hanging out with some cows. King of the forest. King of the rock. I have kind of a weird face going on, and I’m not really loving the beard on Cengiz’s face. We were there in Ramadan. His poor family cooked so much food in the day yet they couldn’t eat it until like 7:30 – I don’t know how they did it! I was ready to get my shovel! Next time I go I’ll try to interview more people. An American in Istanbul. March 8, 2015. I can’t believe you are even reading this now, and that you haven’t given up on me! As a treat, I have cute bunny photos! When I was in Switzerland in the summer, I saw some bunnies and it made me think they would be a nice pet to have. Cengiz and I talked about it for a while but I changed my mind because I do travel often, and if we were to leave Turkey, what would happen to them? We were to leave) so, I have a couple of bunnies! One response to “ Hi! You are com...

Coming to America | wheresmyberger

Experiencing the world and living like a local (trying anyway) since 2012. October 9, 2013. It’s a weird feeling coming back to a place you knew so well just a year earlier. While we didn’t think about it much while we were away, things do change back at home. People get engaged, married, have kids, get new jobs, new business pop up while others fade away. It’s sort of like what the Cambodian’s say, Same, same but different. So in short, would we do it again? Is that really a question? I know these senti...

A sneaky peep at british culture. (N.B. Read from the bottom up for chronological order). Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Pretty much a year to the day since I left London, and I'm pleased to announce I have finally found a new Des-Res! Im renting this cosy cottage with a friend from work, Eve, so until I find a property worth buying this is home! On the outskirts of the market town of Bridport in Dorset, its only 3 miles from the sea and surrounded by the Wessex landscape. Posted by SALLY VAUGHAN @ 6:01 pm.
sallyinistanbul | an American in Istanbul
An American in Istanbul. June 25, 2015. I can’t believe my last “real” post was about America…last summer! I’m almost a year behind. I’m just going to cut the excuses and do a quick wrap-up of some highlights of the past year. If I try to do individual blog posts, I know I’ll never do it! I hope I don’t leave anything out…. Last summer I took a Turkish course and there was a very affectionate cat who liked to “help” me. Sadly I think when she went out for food or the bathroom, another cat went in and nei...

Monday, March 7, 2011. There is nothing like a study abroad experience. Is Colombia.” There were muddy dirt roads, shacks for houses, chickens running around, and a majority of the population was of Afro-Colombian descent and sitting outside their houses in plastic chairs, sipping tinto. I often arrive home to parties in my house. Come take this shot! Sally, come. Sally, I have a question. Me! NOOOO Sally, PLEASE! Roommates (or apartment mates) are complicated. Fortunately, the grass isn’t. Or uncomforta...
