Sally's Kenya Blog

Sunday, October 5, 2008. Yesterday, my first full day back home, I awoke with a start and bounded out of bed, absolutely certain that I was going to be late for breakfast. Surely the rooster had betrayed me and forgotten his wake-up call. Hey, what's all this furniture doing here and who moved the bathroom? The trip seems almost surreal now. Wasn't it only yesterday that we started planning this trip and meeting online and getting to know each other? Now as I unpack my luggage, do the laundry (finally!

Sally's Kenya Blog: 09/19/08

http://sallyskenyablog.blogspot.com/2008_09_19_archive.html

Friday, September 19, 2008. After 7 long months of planning and preparation, much of it done long-distance through hundreds of e-mails and many dozens of phone conferences, the Kenya Medical Mission is about to begin. For now, all of the lists have been made (and lists to remember the lists), supplies and equipment ordered and almost packed, flight and hotel arrangements confirmed, questions answered, jittery nerves calmed, and the last-minute throwing of stuff into suitcases is underway. The early a...

Sunday, September 28, 2008. Day 6 - 9/27/08. This was our biggest day yet. If our patient flow continues as it has so far, we will have seen and treated about 12,000 kids by the time we close the camps next Tuesay. In our wildest imaginations, we could never have predicted this result. From the beginning, many of us have wondered what would happen to these children when we go home. Will anyone follow after us, or will they continue to be the forgotten ones? Day 5 - 9/26/08. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sally's Kenya Blog: Day 9 - 9/30/08

http://sallyskenyablog.blogspot.com/2008/10/day-9-93008.html

Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Day 9 - 9/30/08. The concept of illness prevention here is still very new and a plan to implement it sorely needed. Based on what we've observed, many of the basic components already are in place even in the slums. Fresh fruits and vegetables are available in abundant quantiti. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). End of Day 9 - 9/30/08. Day 9 - 9/30/08. Day 8 - 9/29/08. Day 7 - 9/29/08. Past President, Rotary Club of Marietta Metro (D-6900); District 6900 DGSC.

Wednesday, October 1, 2008. End of Day 9 - 9/30/08. When the final crates and boxes were locked and stowed, the Mukuru crew gathered for a huge group photo with some of our new Kenyan friends. Trying to edit out the "red eye" in this photo would be impossible; there are too many to count and the red eyes are all real. As the international team members boarded the buses for the final time, the leaders of the Kenyan continent called me aside. "Will you please do one more thing for us? Day 9 - 9/30/08.

It's hard to say goodbye. A crazy few days it has been! I've been to a few meetings and have met so many Rotary International members! I talked to Stephen for a while today, he works for Hope Worldwide. I've learned a lot from him as well about what he does for the children in his community and his love for them. It's...I'm l...

At the Kitchen Table: Recipes, Food Tips, Rice Cooker Cooking

How to Cook Rice. Sally’s Kitchen – The Story. It was summer. It was hot. And we needed to eat. My choices were:. Cook on the stove and heat the house more. Go out to dinner. Fire up the barbecue. I discovered another solution – a simple, safe way to cook that is fast, cheap, convenient, and delicious. Our son came up with the solution. The solution is a rice cooker. A rice cooker turns itself down to warm and not burn the food if he gets distracted. It‘s all one-step. It was simple. I just threw all...
