It is reached by ferry or air from Kirkwall on the Orkney Mainland. Sanday is famous for it's sandy beaches and interesting wildlife. To find out more, visit the Sanday Website. Some views of the island can be seen below. There is also a DVD about Sanday entitled 'Sanday in Focus' , available through the website.

When the Free Church of Scotland was established in 1843, the people of Sanday erected a new church, manse and schoolhouse on a spot almost mid-way between the island's two established kirks. The church was demolished and the school rebuilt in 1964, but the manse still stands, largely unaltered. For over half a century it was inhabited by the Rev. Matthew Armour. Laird and Lady Totland of Kingsdale. Denny (Dennis) Totland signed with the Detroit Tigers and played minor league baseball from 1960-1962.
