Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Thursday, 28 August 2014. Art Textiles - Made in Britain. For this blog post I am concentrating on three artists who I have taken courses this year or have worked with a little. I was very lucky to spend three days on Sandra's "Less is More" course at The Minerva Gallery in Llandidloes in July.(more of this later) Having heard her talk about the pieces in the "Identity" exhibition I was keen to see it in the flesh. Her techn...I was...

A Fabric Adiction: July 2014
http://sjtreen.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Sunday, 27 July 2014. Our Travelling book project continues and my next project has been to try and interpret seaweedy shallows. I found some images of seaweed, a watercolour art work and graphic image of seaweed. I also found a piece of linen that I had indigo dyed and have used this as my background. I started with space dyed scrim, pulling and teasing it out and shaped some felt pieces to give me a ground to work on. This time I ...

A Fabric Adiction: July 2015
http://sjtreen.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Monday, 27 July 2015. Finally found the time to put one of my embroidery designs up as wallpaper for the blog. So much better than the default version. Will now have to see if I can do these things from the I Pad rather than the clunky PC! Links to this post. Sunday, 26 July 2015. Through our Hands - The Liberated Quilt Pt. 2. Sue Benner's " Mesh 1" is visually grabbing. Strong abstract imagery strikes one from a distance and dr...

A Fabric Adiction: Through Our Hands - The Liberated Quilt
http://sjtreen.blogspot.com/2015/07/through-our-hands-liberated-quilt.html
Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Friday, 24 July 2015. Through Our Hands - The Liberated Quilt. I finally made it to Bilston to see this exhibition! From all that I had heard, it seemed that this would be an interesting and thought provoking show. I was not disappointed! I am interested in the different way in which I seem to approach textile art from other genres. I suspect that my largely absent art education leaves me without a vocabulary or a knowledge base...

A Fabric Adiction: January 2015
http://sjtreen.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Saturday, 24 January 2015. A year ago, three of us, decided to try a "Round Robin Quilt" the idea being that we'd each make a small starter piece measuring one hundred square inches and send it to person two who would then add the same amount again and pass it on for the final amount to be added before the quilt top was dispatched back to the originator. Easter came and we each eagerly awaited the return of "our" quilt. I decided th...

Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Tuesday, 25 August 2015. The African Influence again. This summer I re read my journal from a trip to Zambia and Botswana and was instantly drawn to my description of a late evening on the edge of the Zambezi river. I had a hand dyed length from Jo Lovelock and it was perfect as a proxy for the more placid areas of the river. This I quilted as a whole cloth in swirls that reminded me of the moving waters. Links to this post. On Rece...

A Fabric Adiction: "All washed up" pt 2
http://sjtreen.blogspot.com/2015/07/washed-up-pt-2.html
Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Sunday, 19 July 2015. All washed up pt 2. I have been really engaged with the stitch work this last week. I think I have the makings of two pieces of work from my whah up cloths. The random, sponge wipe, cloth will form a background quilt on which I can place a strp pieced quilt. The remaining purple cloth is forming a background quilt for the gelli plate wipings, stamp clean up samples. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Three pie...

A Fabric Adiction: Working in Series - article for CQ Magazine

Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Thursday, 23 July 2015. Working in Series - article for CQ Magazine. Both these ventures were made less daunting because of the the small size of the pieces. Now I have to find a way to scale up so that I can begin to create a series of larger pieces. It's the abstraction that has captivated me! I'm using the "Elements" challenge to try this out. It's larger than the earlier pieces and not quite a big quilt. Taking this step...Havin...

A Fabric Adiction: June 2014
http://sjtreen.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Mapping my creative journey and recording the discoveries made en-route. Thursday, 19 June 2014. Bluebell Abstraction pt. 4. This version has tested me, I have had to make two attempts before I was satisfied with the concept. I wanted to try "floating" a tile of bluebells in it's own environment. I tried two methods of creating the tile. The first by setting the tile in strips of one colour. Links to this post. Sunday, 15 June 2014. The dislocations are the ribbon like structures.
