Saturday, April 30, 2011. One of the temple buildings with various gods. Sutras, or oodles of miniature holy men, each with a little light. Monks do laundry too. The Daoist temple also had a ancient Daoist Chinese medicine doctor's office, complete with modern-day patients! At the entrance to the temple complex was a brass gong with a bell in the middle. Monday, May 30, 2011. First Aid at Castelo de Sao Jorge. And seemed to be really dazed. The French lady spoke Portuguese, and we managed to get some tissues pressed to his forehead to stop the bleeding and gave him some water. Friday, October 29, 2010. Aubree Returns to China, Part 1. The whole zoo was a bit depressing actually and we left before seeing all the exhibits. However, the pandas were pretty cool to see, and they, perhaps because of their fame around the world, had plenty of space and care. My boss here, Dr. Qiao, warned me that they would be sleeping and boring, and most of them were in fact snoozing away, but a few were active and now I can say I've seen one! Saturday, July 9, 2011. My last spoken Chinese was not actually in China, but in the Chicago airport. There was a family of Chinese from my plane who really could not figure out where to go to make their connecting flight, and I was able to tell them to get on the inter-terminal train, and then when to get off. I usually pick other activities over running since distance running for long periods of time was never my thing. I polevaulted in college so my running consisted of sprinting about 80 feet several times in a row.
