http://kevinsgreenhouseangle.blogspot.com/2010/08/state-of-botanical-gardens-red-flag.html
Monday, August 9, 2010. State Of Botanical Gardens A Red Flag. Botanical gardens aren’t just looking for gardeners to come visit them these days. They’re looking for people who go to art museums and zoos. So says Pat Matheson, the executive director of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, who’s quoted in a New York Times story. Times change, though. Shockingly, Stark’s daughters are 4 and 8. And if they already care enough to preserve trees, our industry needs to be front and center explaining to the...The sam...

Kevin's Greenhouse Angle: Rethinking America In Bloom
http://kevinsgreenhouseangle.blogspot.com/2010/07/rethinking-america-in-bloom.html
Friday, July 16, 2010. Rethinking America In Bloom. AIB) has been around since 2002, leading the charge to beautify our communities, towns and cities with floriculture. But despite the nine years AIB has spent spreading the word of our industry, growth has been somewhat hard to come by. First, a grassroots program like America In Bloom is only possible because of the volunteer board. Ultimately, it should come from growers. But AIB needs to show growers precisely what its impact is on them. AIB l...If AI...

CSU Extension Greenhouse Advisor. Reliable, research based greenhouse advice on issues facing professional and hobby greenhouse managers. Friday, October 07, 2011. Only half of my fall mum bloomed? Fall is the perfect season for gardeners to finally be able to chop down their poorly placed annuals. But also, it can be a grand time to catch some mistakes. Did it mutate over the summer? Why is only half of the plant in bloom? This is just crazy, or is it? The chrysanthemum is a qualitative short-day plant.

Kevin's Greenhouse Angle: The Blue Orchid
http://kevinsgreenhouseangle.blogspot.com/2011/01/blue-orchid.html
Monday, January 24, 2011. One of the most-talked about products unveiled at last week's Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition. TPIE) was Silver Vase. If you're a blooming potted grower, the more appropriate question than "what do you. Think of 'Blue Mystique,'" is whether or not there is indeed a market for it. Put aside your personal feelings and consider whether or not consumers would buy into blue. I've already heard one potential marketing approach for 'Blue Mystique'. In "It's a boy! Arguably 95 percen...

Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Sustainability here to stay. According to the Natural Marketing Institute's LOHAS consumer trends database for 2007, consumers see sustainability as a long term thing. In fact, those who believe this outnumber those who don't, 2-to-1. That means consumers expect to see sustainable/eco-friendly products. And expect themselves and others to pick up eco-friendly practices. Those who "get there" and "do that" will be seen as the experts. Read more about it here. Shall we spend it?

The Revolution: Use Your Loyalty Program Wisely
http://tgcrevolution.blogspot.com/2010/09/use-your-loyalty-program-wisely.html
Friday, September 24, 2010. Use Your Loyalty Program Wisely. I have a great example of a way to use your loyalty program to add benefit to your customer. And, it takes a negative event and spins it positively toward your store. My son's formula was recently recalled by Similac. Which made me upset and angry (it had bugs in it, which also grosses me out to no end). The recall made the news on the web Wednesday night (Sept. 23). In the last 18 months and what to do with it. Post it in the comments below!
