Greetings from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Monday, May 07, 2007. The Terrible Turkish Toilets. Sometimes it can really suck to be a woman. It is tired and true, but men have it easy when it comes to using the bathroom. They get to pee standing up, while women have to squat in some pretty unbearable situations. Anyways, back to the point. I was out and about traveling with some friends and had to use the restroom at the bus station. And bus station bathrooms are notorious for being really bad. Zagorka Queen: June 2007

Greetings from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Friday, June 29, 2007. What's Wrong With American High Schools. By Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, and co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Our high schools are obsolete. By obsolete, I don't just mean that they are broken, flawed and underfunded —although I can't argue with any of those descriptions. Sure enough, today only one-third of our students graduate from high school ready for college, work and citizenship. In district after district acro...

Greetings from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Sunday, September 02, 2007. The Sights, Sounds, and Smells of Istanbul. A quick picture review trying its best to capture snip its of Istanbul. Baklava. (Original baklava is made from "40" layers of yufka dough. The dough should be so thin that it should be transperant. In between, pistachio or walnuts are laid.). These pictures don't even begin to do Istanbul justice, but it gives you a very small glimpse into what it has to offer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Greetings from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Thursday, August 30, 2007. Istanbul in a Nutshell. I wanted to write all about my time in Istanbul with my family, but couldnt help but think that my friend Max had put it so eloquently: "Istanbul, a city that is truly a crossroads of history and civilization. A capital of empires and dynasties, today Istanbul is the financial and cultural capital of modern Turkey (though the “official” political capital is Ankara, in central Anatolia). We had a blast. Zagorka Queen: The Sunken Palace
http://jessielloyd.blogspot.com/2007/09/sunken-palace.html
Greetings from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Monday, September 03, 2007. Istanbul is often described as mystical, but when you go down the steps into the cool, dark cisterns, it doesn’t get more mystical and magical than that. Beneath Istanbul lie hundreds of gloomy cisterns. They're left from the days when Istanbul was Constantinople. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am currently a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria! Greetings from Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Stara Zagora really did become my second home, my home away from home.
