Colliery Dam Park | I am #OneOf40

It’s Your Money. July 4, 2015. Many people didn’t know this is about to be forced upon the park. There are pieces of information that are still lacking, most specifically, from what I gather, spillway capacity and flow rate. On their own accord, many of the people who we spoke to believe there is an ulterior motive behind this. A few people we spoke with vowed to take actions into their own hands to protest and block destruction of the park. Michelle.Stilwell.MLA@leg.bc.ca. July 9, 2015 at 5:42 PM. A rea...

Colliery Dam Park | Why Shouldn’t We Spend The Money Yet
http://www.collierydams.org/why-shouldnt-we-spend-the-money-yet
It’s Your Money. Why Shouldn’t We Spend The Money Yet? Excessive spending of our tax payer money is simply not warranted. Suitable remediation options to mitigate the risk have not been properly explored, and the current two options do not meet the needs of the tax payers and the community. The cost-benefit ratio is not financially sensible whatsoever (spending $3-10 million in order to prevent $2.5 million in potential risk). The results of these studies proved that the dams are well within regulatory r...

Sunday, October 12, 2014. Update from Jeff Solomon. I realize that things have been quiet on the dam front and I would like to give you an update. We were to meet with the engineer on Thursday October 9 but it was delayed. We are now on hold until next week and will probably go back to council on Oct. 27. Please pay attention to the upcoming election. I especially would like to support the Cedar community as I believe the facilities plan was very poorly thought out and a huge loss for the community.

Colliery Dam Park | Current State of Affairs – July 2, 2015
http://www.collierydams.org/current-state-of-affairs
It’s Your Money. Current State Of Affairs – July 2, 2015. Currently the City of Nanaimo is in an extremely challenging position. The Dam Safety Section has ordered the City of Nanaimo to choose from one of two remediation options that Council does not consider to be in the community’s best interest, and are options which may well be in excess of what is required since Council does not have the sufficient information it needs to make a properly informed decision. On June 4, 2015, Council members met with ...
