A sailor once returned home to Scarborough. With a monkey from abroad. The monkey escaped and ran onto a grassy bank known in the North Bay. Ever since then mud bank became known as Monkey island. Nowadays Monkey Island is forgotten. Its almost a place of mythology. It is reffered to by some old timers. It was apparently an island on the North Bay. The machine gun bunker was finally blown up in 1964. In the Great War Soldiers also practised throwing hand grenades onto an imaginary enemy below.

The Sea Life Centre is just yards away, where they house 1000s of Sealife species. Scalby Mills road used to have a caravan park, which is now apartment blocks,. Most houses overlook the golf course.

Friends of the Beck. Scalby Beck Angling Club. This is a website to provide information about the great fly fishing available on Scalby Beck. The beck is a well known beauty spot in the heart of Scarborough and a favourite venue for visiting anglers. The Beck is stocked with brown trout, but there is a good amount of wild trout as well as some grayling. The fishing can be quite challenging in some places but very rewarding. The war memorial in the churchyard at St. Laurence’s Church in Scalby, North Yorkshire. November 2011, Scalby. There is the church of St. Laurence. In the churchyard there is a war memorial. 27 men who died in World War 1 and 1 who died in World War 2 are commemorated on the upright section. 15 men who died in WW2 are commemorated at the base of the memorial.
