Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides

Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides. Friday, 6 September 2013. The weather has been variable but mainly good - not hot but enough warmth and rain to get a really good growth of grass going. Lambing was terrific without any requiring bottle-fed this year. This is the warp in situ - it represents a wall originally painted that horrid custardy colour that has been exposed to the elements. The warp starts as beigy and then transforms into custard and then out into a dully watery grey....

Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides. Saturday, 21 January 2012. Is there anybody out there who has a female Angora Goat surplus to requirements? A friend has just lost hers and her billy goat is lonely and sad as a result. If anyone can help, please let me know and I'll pass your details on. Posted by Scalpay Linen. Friday, 20 January 2012. So to get my handspun suitable for warps I need to get back to the Haldane. Just so you know I've been doing some work recently, here is a tub of Wen...

Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides. Saturday, 31 March 2012. First New Face of the Season. Am in the final stages of arranging for a drop-spindle beginners spinning course on 3rd July in Tarbert as part of the Harris Arts Festival. So, if you are in the area and fancy a couple of hours of relaxed learning, let me know. We have our fingers crossed though that it will be a good spring. So between now and then, I have to clean the loomshed of all the winter detritus - persuade the spiders ...

Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides. Saturday, 30 March 2013. Some folk have been complaining that they haven't seen any new lambs on the croft yet. Well, here are a bunch. It's not been a bad year so far - the weather has been glorious. Dry, sunny but cold days have been with us for several weeks now. When it does rain the lambs won't know what it is! This little lamb was just born today. Already healthy and happy. Here she is again with her mum. Posted by Scalpay Linen. 160; &#160...

Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides. Wednesday, 14 December 2011. Some more linen designs. Spurred on by the arrival of my consignment fromJos Vanneste, I spent quite a long time sitting looking at it and wondering what to do with it! Here's a pic of the loom-state cloth. Very stiff and net like. This afternoon I'm going to cut off the first 10m, hem and finish, so look out for the finished cloth. This picture is a bit strange as it doesn't look orangey at all - guess it must...In the lo...

The Tin Shed: November 2011

http://bytheloch.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Living and crafting in the Pennine foothills. Friday, 25 November 2011. Last weekend was spent on a retreat out on the north Yorks moors - very Kathy and Heathcliffe complete with swirling mist. Organised by pal Jane at the West End outdoor centre the emphasis was on Reiki, meditation, shamanic drumming and stick breaking meditation in the woods. Great weekend had by all although the journey home was pretty horrendous because of thick fog. All the pics relate to the retreat - we were in nidderdale. The g...

Met up with my cousin Paula whom I haven't seen for 49 years and in my excitement I forgot to take pictures as did she! The Tin Shed: December 2009

http://bytheloch.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Living and crafting in the Pennine foothills. Wednesday, 30 December 2009. Soup, polo necks again, tidying and no pics! Whoops have been really busy knitting today and before I knew it the light had gone and wanted to take pics in natural light - will tie a knot in my hanky so that I remember to do it tomorrow! Will develop this idea a bit, knitted on four needles it was a bit thick and stiff to manage but quick to knit. Have also been making soup today, still very cold outside - ideal soup weather!
