Disgust or Anger? – Scepticon
https://scepticon.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/disgust-or-anger
Just the Biased Facts. Date: 21 October, 2009. The ability to recognise the emotional states of those around us is a very useful tool which allows us to act appropriately in social situations. If this ability is impaired then it could lead to inappropriate reactions when dealing with others, this in turn could land us in hot water. An impairment like this has been suggested to explain the behaviour of delinquents, though it is unlikely to be a sole cause of antisocial behaviour. The emotions covered were...

The Role of Experiments in Science – Scepticon

Just the Biased Facts. The Role of Experiments in Science. Date: 20 March, 2012. In an attempt to widen my horizons I have been listening to the Philosophy Now podcast. Out of the UK. A recent episode concerned philosophy of science ( ep 29. And the host asked an interesting question: “Why do we have to have experiments when sometimes we can get away with observations? The implication here is that we have two things, observations on the one hand and experiments on the other. The problem with this view ho...

https://scepticon.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/test-your-science-literacy-skills
Just the Biased Facts. Test your Science Literacy Skills. Date: 22 January, 2013. Last week an interesting paper was published. Outlining the development of a test designed to evaluate science literacy. The basic idea of the test is to examine a number of different skills that are involved in evaluating scientific claims and facts. To that end I need beta testers, people who would like to take the test and give me feed-back on how to improve it. A couple of things I need to mention at this point:. Finall...

https://scepticon.wordpress.com/2013/01/23/science-literacy-test-initial-follow-up
Just the Biased Facts. Science Literacy Test Initial Follow-up. Date: 23 January, 2013. About the Science Literacy test. Has gotten some good responses. Thought I’d put up a couple of initial thoughts/feed-back on the testing:. First off it’s becoming clear that some of the questions are ambiguously worded. This is especially obvious in the results for questions 12 and 14. The first question “Which of the following is a valid scientific argument? 8221; has a 100% responder correctness score. As does ...

the blog that hardly ever gets updated: Cape Town!
http://theclagues.blogspot.com/2008/09/cape-town.html
The blog that hardly ever gets updated. How's that for a truthful title? I'm trying some reverse psychology on it. Sunday, September 28, 2008. We made it to Cape Town! And we survived our 19 hour bus trip. The bus was actually more comfortable than the plane, with nice soft seats that reclined a looong way. Got to see some of the countryside as we were going along too - lot and lots of very dry land! Even saw our first african animals. well, they were sheep and cows and goats - but they were african!

The blog that hardly ever gets updated. How's that for a truthful title? I'm trying some reverse psychology on it. Saturday, September 27, 2008. Bring on the bus! We made it to joburg, and luckily enough so did our luggage. We had 12 hours to kill before the next stage, so we really wanted to see the apartheid museum. Luckily, we were able to find a place to have a shower and a rest beforehand, so we went off to museum feeling slightly more human. Sent from Gmail for mobile mobile.google.com. Blame it on...
Skeptic Flyer: Darcy Cowan and the IAS
http://skepticflyer.blogspot.com/2011/10/darcy-cowan-and-ias.html
Saturday, October 15, 2011. Darcy Cowan and the IAS. First Yes, it had been a very, very long time since my last post. But there is a very good reason for this. I moved. And I started a new job. Actually I started two new jobs. And I moved to a completely new city. So I have been a bit distracted. Life changes and all. I may get into that later. Or maybe not. Any way. I want to mention Darcy Cowan on Sciblogs. He has filed a complaint against the IAS. YAY! I have talked about the IAS before here. Thanks ...

Cricket fever is in full swing in Pakistan; everyone is glued to TV and overly engrossed with cricket. Just the Biased Facts. The Importance of Not Being a Dick. Several years ago Phil Plait gave a talk at TAM that has become known as the “Don’t be a Dick” speech.
