Friday, July 31, 2009. Joel and Amy Across America, Part 5. Old North Church –. The tallest and oldest church in Boston is Christ Church, known by just about everybody in Boston as Old North, and it’s because of its towering steeple that it was chosen to hang the lanterns for Paul Revere and William Dawes so they could alert the arrival of British troops. Click HERE for More Pictures! That is, until I found out you could go up the monument. Thursday, July 30, 2009. Joel and Amy Across America, Part 4.

Thursday, September 10, 2009. Vintage Student Quotes, 2004. I had a former student ask what happened to the quotes from his freshmen year of high school, which was something like five years ago, so I dug them up and here they are. These are my first ever students, who will always hold a special place in my heart. But man, did they say some stupid stuff. So, without further ado, student quotes from Fall 2004 through Spring 2005. Me: “So you had an imaginary friend named Theodore the 3rd? In our discussion...

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. DYK - Who Were Wendy and McDonald? The origins of some fast food restaurant names are pretty obvious—Burger King wants to be known as the king of burgers. Subway sells submarine sandwiches. Pizza Hut is a hut from which one can acquire pizza. These all are common sense. But some restaurants appear to have more story behind them than we ever take time to realize. That is why I’m here, helping you Did-You-Know your way through Tuesday. McDonald’s –. Wendy’s –. 8211; Wilbur Hardee o...

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. DYK - Invisible Light. Here’s something to blow your mind—light is invisible. I’m telling you, I heard this and it took me like fifteen minutes to wrap my mind around it. See, when we’re “seeing” light, we’re not seeing the light itself. What we’re seeing is the matter that light bounces off of. If light wasn’t invisible, we couldn’t see anything anywhere, because the light would just be this crazy shiny mist between our eyeballs and everything else in the world. Since turning 21 ...

M&M Franchi: My night at U F C 90 in Chicago
http://thefranchis.blogspot.com/2008/11/my-night-at-u-f-c-90-in-chicago.html
Saturday, November 1, 2008. My night at U F C 90 in Chicago. It was just over a year ago the Mixed Martial Arts (fighting style used in the UFC) was legalized in Illinois. There have been a few small regional promotions to have shows since then, but not until October 25th, 2008 did the UFC finally tread into Chicago. My brothers and I have been watching this sport since borrowing UFC 1 VHS tapes in the early 90's, all the way to watching it mature into the huge promotion it is today. Clay 'The Carpenter'...

http://thefranchis.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 28, 2007. Hi everyone - just a quick update on what's going on in Franchiville. Thanksgiving was great. We spent the early afternoon with the Roger's clan at Tom and Karen's house. It was fun to visit with everyone. We then made the 1 hour drive to Port Barrington to see the Franchi clan. Seems everyone is doing well on both sides of the family. We've had my mother-n-law over to help with decorating the baby's room. I'll post a picture once its done. So far it looks amazing. I just wa...

Emily is now 8 months old, she has began to crawl, and is all in all a great Little girl. She's happy as can be, always smiling, trying to talk all the time, and enjoying her new found mobility. Phil and Trish Oerke. Lots of news to ...
