Saturday, June 19, 2010. Well I've been living in Italy now for a few months. and I am slowly finding words and ways of understanding being here. The first months were not easy. I was alone. I didn't speak the language. But mostly, I hadn't figured out a story to tell myself about why I was here. I had a story in Oregon. Family, friends, mountains, and the Oregon Coast. Born and raised. Understood. It was where everyone knew my name. I had a story in New Zealand -. I still can't see it like some can.

Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Run away with me. Anyway, the coromandel is an amazing place. This is at least my 3rd trip and if I lived closer I'd go every month. I just love walking the beaches and seeing the views and exploring the bits that are forest. With a lady walking her dog and using the leash as a way to drag her sandals behind her! And of course more driving. And the obligatory trip down to cathedral cove. Auckland isn't my favourite city. yes, I've said it. It also is a place where olives just grow.

Sunday, November 8, 2009. Spring has arrived in our little place here in New Zealand. Which has a lot of interesting advantages. the first that comes to mind is that it will be my 4th summer in a row! So now that I have energy, and in a few more weeks significantly more time, I hope to do a bit of 'back-posting.'. But for now, here are some recent events. The musical last rites, sorely out of tune, but that was to be expected:. We started taking it apart:. Cutting away the glued together bits. The pair w...

Thursday, February 11, 2010. I've been rather infrequent at posting here. there are a few excuses. The attack of the varied viruses from Swine flu to something that felt a lot like Mono. I quit my job. I started training 2 times a day. So for those who haven't heard, my husband has been offered a 3 year post in Italy. I'll be doing a PhD in gesture recognition or something like that in the human machine interface area of the institute. It is all a great adventure. or something. Man I'll miss it here.

Monday, July 20, 2009. Volcanos from the sky. Our inflight entertainment from Seattle to PDX was volcano after volcano after volcano. It is fair to say that 'the mountains were out' which is such a rare thing in the rainy Northwest. PDX and the Max Line. Sunday, July 19, 2009. Training while on vacation. So I present to you the vacation-erg thanks to my friend who lent me her dusty rowing machine. And the Oregon flavor beach run. The oh-so-light out 5:40 am departure to boat house. Thursday, March 18, 2010. I love that you have come to understand New Zealand and become New Zealanders through your relationship with Wellington harbour. Your key I think is the extreme dynamicism of Wellington harbour, from flat rowable to horizontal rain, and your willingness, eagerness and joy at adapting to it; siezing the good times and knowing when to just observe. All the best in your Italian adventures. March 19, 2010 at 12:16 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A bit of background.

Monday, October 5, 2009. As if the swine flu wasn't enough. Nor was the second flu I had. No I had to get another virus, one that sent me to bed for nearly 3 weeks, and then reduced me to a fatigued pile of tears after four hours of work each day. Two weeks of 4 hour days four days a week, and I could just barely manage to go back to full time work. One day in there I took a vacation from my bed and went for a ten minute walk on the beach at the bottom of our hill. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Friday, February 27, 2009. Here are a few photos:. Friday, February 13, 2009. Photo 1 - Ivy. This is my breakfast today. It was shared with lots of people who just showed up to eat with me. Yay living in the country. All the main ingredients were from my garden. My free range eggs from my birthday chickens were the core bit, then fresh green beans, tomatos, swiss chard, basic. I did toss in some store bought onions and garlic though. Yes I don't take my chooks camping with me, but I do love it when they ...
