During a recent holiday in England, I spent a few days in a location without any links to the internet at all. No mobile phone signal, no WiFi hotspots. Nothing. It was interesting to see the impact this had. There were countless times when I wanted to check something on a map. Or the opening times of a shop. Or get the latest news or weather forecast. Without realising it, I have become an autonomous and habitual user of Google and suddenly found myself disconnected. What I learned at OggCamp 2015.

The Weirdest Bug – Lenovo Ideapad S205. Today I offered to help a friend with their new Lenovo S205 which they’d bought a year or so previously, but not got around to using. HP Chromebook 11 Charging Fix. Ideally, you’ll want to recharge the thing every time the battery drops to 20% or so to avoid this issue but here’s what to do if you do manage to kill your Chromebook by letting it run flat. Carefully prise off the coloured panels on the base, to reveal the screws. Open the the thing up and find the battery connector:. Now, with the charger still plugged in. Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition. My Dell XPS 13 developer edition is a lovely machine. It’s slim and light, very very fast and has a beautiful screen. It also came from the manufacturer with Ubuntu linux pre-installed and ready to go. I do wish more manufacturers would sell their computers without Microsoft Windows. What I learned at OggCamp 2015. I attended my first ever OggCamp on the weekend of 31st October / 1st November. Having never been to any kind of ‘unconference’ before, I didn’t know quite what to expect. So here’s a few thoughts on what I learned:. Free culture and free software types are a friendly bunch. I didn’t realise Mars was as small or as cold as it is. The first talk I listened to was by Gurbir Singh. Protocols run the world. TLS is the correct name for SSL. A lot can happen in five minutes.
