A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Thursday, September 2, 2010. Initially I hesitated to read “. 8221; by John Scalzi because I had read and enjoyed “ The Ghost Brigades. 8221;, but I didn’t enjoy “Zoe’s Tale”. However, once I cracked open this book I realized I was going to be late for work. “ The God Engines. 8221; is a short novella that is impossible to put down. 8220; The God Engines. 8221; is powerfully dark and definitely worth reading. A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Thursday, January 12, 2012. Happy New Year everyone! Our first review of 2012 comes from Tina Panik, a colleague of mine and a fellow librarian. If popular television series THE WALKING DEAD. Merged with the psychological writing world of Don DeLillo. By Colson Whitehead, would be the result. Having never read Colson Whitehead. But from the first chapter on, I was pleasantly, repeatedly surprised. Stop by the library. And pick up a copy today. View my comple...

The Labyrinth Librarians: Death Star: Beach Ball of Death
http://thelabyrinthlibrarians.blogspot.com/2011/09/death-star-beach-ball-of-death.html
A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Thursday, September 1, 2011. Death Star: Beach Ball of Death. Here’s another quick beach read, Star Wars: Death Star. By Michael Reaves and Steve Perry. While this wasn't the best Star Wars novel I had ever read, it did spark a conversation among my friends about the engineering and technological challenges to building a Death Star in real life. Star Wars: Death Star. If you're a diehard Star Wars fan then you should read. Stop by the library. Thanks for rea...

The Labyrinth Librarians: Starship Troopers
http://thelabyrinthlibrarians.blogspot.com/2011/10/starship-troopers.html
A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Thursday, October 13, 2011. In my last post, I mentioned that I reread The Ghost Brigades. By Jon Scalzi. This in turn prompted me to reread Heinlein's classic, Starship Troopers. Both are great military scifi novels. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to tackle Troopers. At the beach (It’s getting a bit cold for that! If you haven't gotten around to reading this one, you need to. Much has been written about Troopers. Adam recommended I read Starship Troopers, argu...

The Labyrinth Librarians: September 2011
http://thelabyrinthlibrarians.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Thursday, September 15, 2011. On my most recent trip to the beach, I opted to reread The Ghost Brigades. By Jon Scalzi, the sequel to Old Man's War. It's a fast-paced military science fiction novel; the perfect accompaniment to a relaxing day in the sun. Many questions are raised in the novel such as; will Dirac remain loyal to his Ghost Brigade companions? Will the consciousness of Charles Boutin take over? Does Dirac have free will? Stop by the library.

The Labyrinth Librarians: December 2010
http://thelabyrinthlibrarians.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Wednesday, December 15, 2010. I don’t want to live in District 12. I never want to be chosen to participate in the Hunger Games. I do, however, want to hang out with Katniss Everdeen, one of the most valiant and determined female protagonists to hit the printed page in quite some time. The girl’s got moxie. The feelings of obligation and the instinct to survive create a dichotomy that Katniss tries to reconcile throughout the book. For next week's book talk.

A fellowship on a quest for the best in books. Thursday, June 9, 2011. By Cherie Priest, comes from Paul Aridas. Enjoy. In this sequel to Boneshaker. Cherie Priest returns to the Steampunk world of Civil War America. Except it’s East Coast Civil War America, where the edition of. Mercy Lynch, nurse-heroine-extraordinaire,. Creates a completely different—albeit equally appealing—perspective of this unique world. Those fans will wish Priest had opted for tighter editing within these chapters. It’s wo...
