GAHC’s First Christmas. GAHC’s celebrates its’ First Christmas. GAHC marks its’ first christmas with a window display entitled “Christmas 1950′s”. After the austerity of WW II families looked whole-heartedly towards Christmas. Although meat rationing was still in force until 4th July 1954 (sweets in 1953) for the first time in years Chicken, Turkey and Goose began to appear on the table. Our window exhibit shows ‘Mum’ putting the finishing touches to the tree, surrounded by toys and games!

Reflections on The Great War 1914 – 1918. The content of the exhibition is vast, covering all aspects of the Great War. Mainly photographic, our efforts have been concentrated where possible on those men we could trace from our immediate vicinity who served in the Great War. Christmas Box circa 1915. On show within the Heritage Centre is this 1915 Christmas Box presented to the British Troops from King George and Queen Mary. The box contains the original cigarettes and tobacco.
