Scott Downe's Blog. Image cropping in Popcorn Maker. On September 18, 2013 by scottdowne. Image cropping has just landed in Popcorn Maker. Previously, there was no way to get an image to fill the screen if its aspect ratio did not match, it was also impossible to only show part of an image. Now, you can stretch, fill and crop images. Step 1 is to add an image track event. You’ll notice it fills its space, and adds white to either side to fill up the aspect ratio of the media. Also made a popcorn tutorial...

Scott Downe's Blog. Laquo; Follow through on my fontready patch. Fontready event and pdf.js experiment. The bulk of this release is my preliminary work on font a fontready event. I initially wanted to have a test going for my my Firefox ticket (677122). But it turned out to be more of a learning curve than I expected, and not a test suite like the ones I was familiar with. I will have to push it to 0.9. There is a Firefox ticket. My first blog post. There is interest on the chrome side of things, but not...

Scott Downe's Blog. Archive for January, 2012. Laquo; Older Entries. OSD 700 project release 0.4. Posted in open source. On January 28, 2012 by scottdowne. For school, I am doing project releases in courses OSD600 and OSD700. I completed three iterations, 0.1-0.3. Now in OSD700, I need to do 0.4-1.0. This post will outline what I did for 0.4. I’ve started by taking Firefox bug 677122. Which was labeled as “not quite as easy”. I am always up for a challenge. For the tl;dr check my diff. This failed becaus...

Scott Downe's Blog. Archive for February, 2012. OSD700 project release 0.6. Posted in open source. On February 26, 2012 by scottdowne. Continuing on from my OSD 700 release 0.5. I now I have the next logical release, as 0.6. Is to implement hash change media fragment refresh on media documents. Example: Open a media document. I have gone through a few iterations for this patch, and finally have something. What I am doing in this final commit is similar to what I was trying in my last post. That’s i...

Scott Downe's Blog. Archive for October, 2011. Thoughts on Popcorn.js hackathon in San Francisco. Posted in open source. On October 21, 2011 by scottdowne. Wired has an article. About the event, so check it out. After lunch you have to start developing. At this point huge changes to the spec can be frustrating, but still, no harm in asking. You never know, that thing you want changed might actually be easier! Create a free website or blog at WordPress.com. Scott Downe's Blog. Blog at WordPress.com.

Blogging for the Open Source Market. January 27, 2011. Candy 0.4 Release – Plugin for Popcorn.js. As you all may know (or not), Popcorn.js. Has recently been re-written entirely. It now uses a plugin architecture to allow developers to easily add functionality to the library. I have been working on the Candy.js (HTML5 video effects) library. For 5 months, and now that Popcorns library has room for plugins I have ported my code into the plugin architecture. Check out the demo here. How to Use Candy Plugin.

Monthly Archives: April 2011. Done with R0.3, 0.3. Hopefully not done with processing and popcorn…. April 20, 2011. The last ticket that I was working on for my 0.3 was imageCopy issue with transparency in Processing.js which is surprisingly done! It seemed the way p5. Was setting up the sketch was somehow different than browsers in a way that when there is a transparent pixel in p5 it shows the first layer underneath whereas in pjs. Then, as dhodgin. 1- if you are not passing image as an argument:.

Blogging for the Open Source Market. Candyjs 0.3 and Beyond. January 16, 2011. Looking for help (more createGraphics stuff). August 3, 2010. I’m at a block here…. When I last talked about createGraphics. Since I couldn’t get it to work, I started by stripping Processing.js. The Crazed Mind of an Aspiring Developer. Thoughts floating in my head – Personal and Professional. New School Year, still working on the same projects →. August 17, 2010. Well, I was kind of distraught in my last few posts. I didn’t know what I was doing differently from some of the things other people were doing. The code was almost exactly the same (minus obviously different variable names). I found out later, after taking apart Processing.js. The other function I was working on was textMode. To get t...

Saturday, June 5, 2010. I'm in the middle of moving my blog over to http:/ scottdowne.wordpress.com/. I will be spending the next few weeks fiddling with the smaller details of design, the sort of detail that can get someone like me wrapped up for days doing, but not accomplishing anything :). I was impressed that I was able to just export all my old posts over to wordpress, by clicking a "magic button", literally, that's what it was labeled as. It's all automated, and a really painless process. To "make...
