The Scottish Atheist | The musings of an Atheist living in Scotland.

March 27, 2015. It’s over a year since my last blog post, but I have been jarred from my slumber once more. A lot has changed in the intervening period – the Independence Referendum has been fought, and lost… and then it has started to look like we didn’t lose after all. As the party has explored what that change looks like, voices have called for a fundamental change to how the party chooses it’s candidates, and the subject of All Women Shortlists has come to the fore… and is causing the sam...There is ...

A little less conversation, a little more relaxation please. May 10, 2007. I love flying business class – and here it is, at it’s best. Finished the various bits and bobs of work I had to get done in London today (over in Kingston Upon Thames – a wodnerfully scenic, if bloody hard to drive through bit of the city). Rather than being stuck in the airport for hours, I swapped to an earlier flight, and got myself comfortably settled in the BA executive lounge – nice! May 8, 2007. It’s an attempt to sl...

About Me | The Scottish Atheist

http://scottishatheist.org.uk/about

I am an Atheist. I was born in Scotland back in the seventies to a pretty normal working class family and grew up in the shadow of the Ravenscraig steel works (which as anyone who actually lived there will tell you is Craigneuk, not Motherwell). At the age of 13 I became a born again christian. Big Mistake. Thankfully, I saw sense and woke up. I think it’s the least I can do to help prevent other people being sucked into the dead end that is Christianity. The musings of an Atheist living in Scotland.

Republican Primaries | The Not-Quite-So-Friendly Humanist

Not so much about humanism anymore. Expect lefty politics and thoughts about higher education. And don’t even get me started on campaign finance! What happened to the votes counting, not the money? And now we have this new 20 minute advert attacking Mitt Romney, a thoroughly unpleasant person who, remarkably, is probably one of the more moderate candidates of the pack, which will cost $3.5m to air in South Carolina. Here’s the trailer (yes, a trailer for an advert):. Capitalism made American great. F...

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful!!!: 27 January 2013

http://shetlandsun.blogspot.com/2013_01_27_archive.html

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful! Shetland - sheep, fish, sun or storm, always beautiful! A gorgeous group of islands that I have the luck to live in. Wednesday, 30 January 2013. Sorry, I forgot. With all the wang-dang about Up Helly Aa yesterday, I forgot to mention that after doing most of my shopping at the Co-op, I popped over to South Road and went into Tesco for some cheap burgers for dinner last night. Now I'm a little horse. Having said that, I do prefer My Lidl Pony :). It's Up Helly Aa.

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful! Shetland - sheep, fish, sun or storm, always beautiful! A gorgeous group of islands that I have the luck to live in. Friday, 21 December 2012. The shortest day of the year. It's only four days until Christmas now and it's also the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice. The sun will come up here in Shetland at 09.12 and will go back down at 14.55 which means that the sun is up for just under six hours, a very short day indeed. An hour before sunrise.

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful!!!: More Mistakes

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful! Shetland - sheep, fish, sun or storm, always beautiful! A gorgeous group of islands that I have the luck to live in. Saturday, 9 March 2013. I've done it again, I thought that spring was with us so I put the peppermint and the strawberry seeds that I'd just potted out to the wee greenhouse-on-the-wall that I'd recently put up. They haven't risen yet, not a single one of them has even stuck a finger up to test the temperature. That's Shetland for you :). Earthqu...

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful! Shetland - sheep, fish, sun or storm, always beautiful! A gorgeous group of islands that I have the luck to live in. Friday, 21 June 2013. I couldn't see the sun. I never made it for simmer dim last night. It was cloudy with a little mist so I couldn't see the sun coming up and that's the main bit for me, which meant that I went back to bed instead of going out for the simmer dim. Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful!!!: What's the weather like?

http://shetlandsun.blogspot.com/2013/03/whats-weather-like.html

Shetland - Rain or shine, always beautiful! Shetland - sheep, fish, sun or storm, always beautiful! A gorgeous group of islands that I have the luck to live in. Saturday, 23 March 2013. What's the weather like? This says it all about the weather this year and tells us just how poor it is in comparison to last year. What do you think, is it just a cold spring or is it a sign of what is on the way? Thanks to the BBC for the copy. It shows yesterdays. Weather and a year before that. Posted by George Dickson.

Not so much about humanism anymore. Expect lefty politics and thoughts about higher education. What I’d like to see less of in 2012. I had barely nominated David Eastwood for Bright Green Scotland’s Dick of the Year award. When, as if I’d summoned a daemon from the west midlands, an article of his appeared in the Guardian education supplement. Don’t underestimate this man; he is the embodiment of all that is wrong with higher education. He bans student protests on campus. He sat on the Browne review panel.
