East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn

http://www.scottishwinterroutes.com/chaorainn.htm

East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn. This is a pleasingly long and enjoyable ridge and is less well travelled than the nearby crags of Creag Meagaidh. What does that mean? Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 Sheet 34. Ordnance Survey Explorer 401 1:25,000. A fairly safe route. Take a 25-metre rope, a selection of nuts and some slings. Follow a the burn (small path) until you reach the end of the plantation (NN402828). Turn left and follow the plantation edge (fence) until you reach a forestry road after ...

Beinn an Dothaidh

http://www.scottishwinterroutes.com/dothaidh.htm

What does that mean? Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 Sheet 50. Ordnance Survey Explorer 377 1:25,000. Avoid West Gully in new snow or thaw conditions. In avalanche prone conditions, gain the north ridge, which bounds the 'hidden' corrie to the west and gain the summit from there, stopping to look cautiously into West Gully as you pass by. The north ridge makes for an enjoyable winter walk. SAIS do not currently issue a forecast covering this area. The nearest forecast area is Glencoe. more. From the ...

East spur of Carn Dearg Meadhonach

http://www.scottishwinterroutes.com/meadhonach.htm

East spur of Carn Dearg Meadhonach. Central Highlands, just north of Fort William. What does that mean? Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 Sheet 41. Ordnance Survey Explorer 392 1:25,000. Harvey Ben Nevis Map 1:25,000. The main hazards are on the approach but even here it should be fairly safe unless there has recently been a heavy snowfall. Take a 25-metre rope and some slings. Buy a walker/climber's ticket which enables you to take the gondola to the top station at 650 m on Aonach Mor. Eventually the ...

North face of Ben Nevis

http://www.scottishwinterroutes.com/bennevis.htm

North face of Ben Nevis. This climb takes you into the heart of the UK's premier winter climbing venue, the stunning North Face of Ben Nevis. The north face of 'the Ben' is split by a number of large gullies. This route tackles one of the more straightforward options, No. 3 Gully. What does that mean? But a large cornice can sometimes cause problems. Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 Sheet 41. Ordnance Survey Explorer 392 1:25,000. Harvey Ben Nevis Map 1:25,000. Other routes in the area:. Take the Torl...

Creag Meagaidh

http://www.scottishwinterroutes.com/meagaidh.htm

Harold Raeburn was one of the early pioneers of scottish mountaineering, arguably the leading mountaineer of the early 20th century, and the Scottish mountains are full of routes named after him. This route takes you up Raeburn's gully in Coire Ardair, amongst the massive cliffs of Creag Meagaidh, which Raeburn and friends first put up in 1903. The descent is via another well known route, the'Window'. What does that mean? Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 Sheet 34. Ordnance Survey Explorer 401 1:25,000.

Four Points Adventure: Summers coming

http://fourpointsadventure.blogspot.com/2009/01/summers-coming.html

Wednesday, 28 January 2009. Got the paperwork out of the way early so that we could go and recce coasteering locations in preparation for the coming season. After months spent poring over maps looking for suitable locations in the gloomy winter light today the sun shone bright turning our thoughts to summer, so we ditched the office and headed to the coast. http://fourpointsadventure.blogspot.com/2009/02/if-you-go-down-to-woods-today.html

Saturday, 14 February 2009. If You Go Down To the Woods Today. Today we took a group mountain biking in the tiny mountains and trails of Haldon Forest just outside Exeter. Its an awesome location with something for everyone: wide open trails; single track with switchbacks, berms and whoops to a pretty serious downhill section for the brave/stupid! Monday, 9 February 2009. We Love Big Dumps! Went skiing on Dartmooor on Sunday.Awesome; there was so much snow that it could have been on top of Brieriach in the Cairngorms! We hiked in through knee deep drifts to the top of one of the tors then picked a line back down through the rocks for about a kilometre. We're now closely watching the forecast as its due to snow again and if it does we'll be there! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe to our blog. If You Go Down To the Woods Today.

Scottishwinter.com - Scottish winter climbing news

Scottish winter climbing news. May 9, 2015. Sophie Grace Chappell enjoying excellent icy conditions on the first ascent of Anzac Day (IV,4) in Coire Ruadh on Braeriach. The route was climbed on April 25 and is one of a number of high-altitude Cairngorms new routes climbed this spring. Sophie’s retro headgear was put to good use battling the punishing spindrift! It’s been such a busy season that I didn’t have time in March to acknowledge the 500th post on scottishwinter.com. I would like to thank everyone...

Scottish winter climbing meet 2014

Torridon 2014 - Cancelled for this year. Scottish Winter climbing meet 2014. Scottish Winter Climbing Meet 14th - 16th Feb 2014. Last winter Fort William was proud to host the inaugural Scottish Winter climbing meet. This weekend meet was organised by local guides and instructors with the support of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland which is helped to promote the event. It is with regret that we have decided to cancel this years meet, which was to be held at Torridon, due to low numbers booking.

Mark's Scottish Mountain Log

Current (2009 / 10). Met up with Smiler at Cluanie Inn before dawn. He was determined to the the Five Sisters of Kintail (sorry Jason .) although I was sceptical about the time, given that this is the 2nd equal shortest day of the year! Very cold at the moment, -16 deg as I drove to Kinlochewe overnight. The road to Torridon was quite icy but at least it was a bit warmer down by the sea (-8! I decided to do one of the routes in the recent UK Climbing article on the NW Highlands, Deep South Gully. Good we...

MICHAEL HAY / PHOTOGRAPHY

MICHAEL HAY / PHOTOGRAPHY. The eyes are the doors to the soul, not only with people but with animals as well. You can tell from a horses eyes whether it is meek or challenging, sad or contented, quiet or nervous. This is also true with dogs, what mood they are in today, how they meet situations, people and other dogs. Or cats! I try to get behind the normal picture of cute pets and see the real individual behind. SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS HAVE 4 LEGS.
