Winging It!

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Pop, Twist, Furl, Twirl. A little technique review this week. This technique is called many things. I happen to call it 'furling,' a term I first heard and started using when I learned hand-piecing. So the technique isn't new, in fact it's tried and true. The technique is perhaps best known for four-patch blocks, especially pinwheel blocks. For this first part in a multi-part series, the focus is on furling a four-patch block. Once the four-patch seam is sewn and before the blo...

Winging It!: January 2015

http://scrap-therapy-quilts.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 29, 2015. I left Syracuse early in the morning two Saturdays ago. The temperature gauge read -7 degrees Fahrenheit (that's a minus sign in front of the 7, in case you missed it! By the time I landed in Ontario, California, it was early evening and it was significantly warmer outside. I planned to arrive in California a day early for the Road to California workshops. Monday's workshop at Road to California was Chopped. You start with a whole mess of squares. . . Quilters certainly know h...

Wednesday, July 1, 2015. I'm thrilled to be a part of Scrap Quilt Challenge 5. Many thanks to Shannon and her crew at Fabrics N Quilts. For inviting me to participate again this year and for organizing a cool way to focus on scraps, completed projects, and summer time all at once! All you have to do is make scrappy quilts! AND, there's a special deal waiting for you on this post when you make it all the way to the bottom of the tutorial. . . so let's get started! My name is Joan Ford. For my tutorial thi...

Winging It!: May 2015

http://scrap-therapy-quilts.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 28, 2015. Problem: I have TWO cutting tables in this room. One (below) has been long buried beneath a progressively massive stack of projects on hold. I suppose I should call them UFOs (unfinished objects). But don't projects have to be started to be unfinished? Attack plan: With the long holiday weekend, I rolled up my sleeves and I set my sights on finding the counters again. Armed with a small investment of stackable storage bins newly acquired from a Saturday morning shopping spree ...

Thursday, June 18, 2015. Row by Watery Row. In its fifth year, the Row by Row Experience. Is an opportunity for quilters throughout the US and Canada to visit quilt shops, collect patterns, make a row quilt, and win prizes. . . and have a whole lot of fun and memorable experiences in the process! Sounds like a typical shop hop, right? And ends on September 8. In Syracuse, and the originator of the nationwide Row by Row Experience. As a pattern designer, this is my third year working with shops to prepare...

Winging It!: August 2014

http://scrap-therapy-quilts.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 28, 2014. Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan, Oh my! A couple of weeks ago, I rented a mini-van, stuffed it with all kinds of quilty goodness, and headed west. The Evergreen Quilt Guild. In Green Bay, Wisconsin was my first destination. But between me and Green Bay, there's a big lake, Lake Michigan. I decided to avoid some of the congested traffic in the Chicago area and opted to take the Lake Express. The next day at the guild workshop. Before I headed out of town, my hostess, Tracy...

Cats – Small Simple Things of Life

https://smallsimplethingsoflife.com/category/cats

Small Simple Things of Life. It is the small, simple things of life that bring us peace. Relax like a cat. On Christmas morning Mitzie was curled up on the turned back comforter at the foot of the bed. Regretfully, I had to ask her to relocate so I could finish making the bed. Years ago I had another cat that would remain on the bed like this while I dressed for work; I always thought there was something terribly wrong and unfair with that situation! January 4, 2017. Lisa's Lighthearted Library Log. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Not another research paper! Relax, I know that research is listed twice, it's not a mistake.}. But, first off is the topic! Your teacher probably gave you a pretty broad topic to start off with. This is NOT going to be the subject of your paper. Usually instructors give wide ideas to give you the freedom to focus on something about that topic that interests you. And I'll give you your first hint in writing a good paper. You are writing one (1!

Island Creations by Louise. Blogging about quilting, knitting, creativity and life in general. 52 Finishes - 2015 Style! Tuesday, October 25, 2016. After feeling like a truck ran me over, ( not that I really know how that feels since I have never been run over by a truck ) I have been taking it relatively slow the past few days. An hour of sewing here, and hour of cutting there and binding in between. It is all happening, but at a relatively much slower pace than at what I usually operate. Oh yes, I forg...

Observation – Small Simple Things of Life

https://smallsimplethingsoflife.com/category/observation

Small Simple Things of Life. It is the small, simple things of life that bring us peace. Don’t these two over sized, brightly colored chairs give a cheery touch to the landscape? I love the contrast, especially with the faded bench next to them! I’ve never really liked winter, mainly because I don’t like to be cold. Give me a hot day anytime, but I can’t stand to be cold! I love soup, stew, chili, and fireplaces and sweaters and fuzzy socks. But no snow for this one, please. February 2, 2017. My first re...

She couldn't care less - to her it's just another day that also happens to involve chewing on bright gift bows and smearing around cupcake frosting. But, for me, it's a big deal. There's just nothing easy about parenting. To say it's exhausting is putting it mildly. Having one child was manageble for me. Having two children has been one big blur. I added some ribbon around the the paper. and added a greenery. I cut a vine out using the joys of the season cartridge, added some flowers and stickles. I distressed the paper and then I used a mask to get the vine look to it. I painted the chip board and then lightly stamped over the letters. i really like how this looks. I pain...
