A Duffy’s Cut Funeral | The Ancestral Archaeologist
https://scribbler714.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/a-duffys-cut-funeral
Digging beyond the census entries. Larr; Nostalgia Etiquette Tips, Facebook Edition. Stories to Tell (And Save). A Duffy’s Cut Funeral. July 13, 2015. A while back I explored the story of Duffy’s Cut. Burns, a widow, left Ireland with her father-in-law in the early summer of 1832 and soon vanished from the historical record. Examination of her skull indicated considerable “violence by means of a sharp implement,” according to researchers. Read more at Irish Central. At least Burns is finally going home.

Digging beyond the census entries. Larr; NewsClips: Mrs. Roche’s 90th (And Why We Love Newspapers). Despised and Dying: The Irishmen of Duffy’s Cut. August 17, 2010. In the newsbag yesterday came a striking update on what I can only regard as the cautionary tale of Duffy’s Cut. The quote is from The Ghosts of Duffy’s Cut. The book’s meticulous evidence tells a gripping and awful story. Young, strong and dirt-poor, the Irishmen did what newcomers to America always do: the jobs nobody else wants&...Four of...

Do you participate in nostalgic social media groups? Specifically, I mean the kind of Facebook group that’s titled something like You Know You’re From etc., wherein people share photos and memories of a hometown or alma mater. Consider that real people really still live in your old hometown and might be reading this...

Monday, February 8, 2010. This was the story Steve and Jason shared that first night, after lights-out, after we had light-saber fights with our flashlights, after our bunk counselor, Todd, called for us to “quiet down and hit the rack,” after the kid in the bunk above me climbed down to take a pee. 8220;Everyone was relieved it was over,” Jason said. “Only one kid goes. And once Frankie was gone, we all knew we were safe.”. Goes the weasel.”. We all held our breath, listening, but all we heard was a toi...

June 21, 2015. June 21, 2015.
