The Somerset and Dorset Railway always attracted a lot of attention from railway enthusiasts and still generates much interest, although many of its faithful adherents today are too young to remember it when it was operational. SDJR - Spetisbury Halt

Spetisbury Halt was opened on 1st November 1860 as ‘Spetisbury’. It was 1 miles from Charlton Marshall. Originally single line working, the track was doubled in 1901. The station was unstaffed after 13th August 1934 and closed on 17th September 1956. Spetisbury Halt looking east, in November 2007. Spetisbury Bridge (No.215), November 2007. SDJR - Cole Station

Cole station was at the northern end of the Dorset Central Railway, this joined with the Somerset Central Railway and became the Somerset and Dorset Railway in 1862. The station had a small goods yard controlled by a small signal box on the up platform which was also a break between Evercreech Junction and Wincanton. The goods yard closed on 5th April 1965, the signal box on 31st May 1965 and the station closed on 7th March 1966. Cole railway station is now a private residence. The Station Master’s house.

From Chilcompton the line ran south-. West, crossing the A37 road at Emborough about 350 yards south of the junction of the A37 and B3139. The bridge which carried the line over the road has been removed but the abutments still remain on each side. The line then turned southwards, skirting the eastern edge of Emborough Quarries before curving south-.
